Adding another FR Porsche
#1

If you were to add another Front engine Porsche to your garage, which would you choose?

924
944
944s
951
968
928

keep in mind that your keeping your existing 968.

Ive been pondering over this since I drove a very affordable 928. Unlike the 44, 51 & 44S, Its a completely different car from our 68's. I don't like the rear but I love the intr and the feel of the V8. add a SC and your driving one beast of a machine. Up keep however is a B!*#h

The 51 has loads of go fast goodies and produces good power with minimal upgrades and has the sport seats to boot still looks good too. Only downside there is the pop up lights and the fact that there is no cab version. I already have a coupe.

Hmmm tough choice.

28, no doubt. I'd hate gassing it up and keeping it running, but what a blast to drive. Also looks fabulous to my eyes. I love the shark.

while i always like the brute force of the 928, i always found it to be lacking as a sporty car, and other than stomping on the pedal, i never liked the way it drove - it was a nice enough highway cruiser (though the fuel economy was horrible) - the braking was always less than i liked - the car is very heavy feeling - the lines are just not as cool as the 968

i don't hate the car, but i'd choose a 968 or a 951

even though 968 was among the choices I just thought the question was more focused on what other model we'd pick.. otherwise, I'd definitely stick with two 968s vs any other combos

I'd add another 968, but I'd make it a coupe so that I could have both body styles.

It worked! Poll added. Cast your votes.

Although I think we all know the 68 will win the majority. Curious to see what comes in 2nd.

I'm torn as I would like to get a 928 GTS for fun but I would also like a 968 Cab for those days I want more than a hole in my roof. Rear end on a 928 is a bit ugs though.

My friend has an 86.5 928 automatic. I have never driven it, but riding in it is no more impressive than a Buick. Oh a Buick that eats tires (expensive tires).

i'm all over the place. The only 928 i would consider is a 5-Speed GTS. I want another 968...specifically a Mint Green Coupe. I also have evil thoughts of buying a 924 S, swapping in my entire drivetrain and making it a Carrera GTS look-a-like.

What about the S2 cab? Turbo look front end and the SuperCup S2's seem to keep up with the 951's on the track.

Stock vs stock the S2 should out perform the 51. But make a call to lindsey racing and for less then a $1000. the S2 is in the rear view mirror. I suppose if the trak had minimal straights a chipped 3.0 L engine would do OK.

BTW - Who choose the 924?

rhudeboy,

I did. I dont want another 944. I'm on my second one, which me and my buddy are in the process of converting into a track car.

Outside of owning another 968. The only other FR Porsche i would really want is a 924 S. I'd make it a Carrera GTS look-a-like and swap a modified 968 drivetrain into it.

Time for a Google search. I gotta see the finished product of one of these.

A 1988 944 Turbo-S. I used to have one and to this day I regret selling it. The only thing I didn't like about it was the plaid cloth on the seats. Silver Rose was a great color!

it def doesnt look as good as a 968. On the plus side, its much lighter (so power to weight ratio would be much higher and the car would be more tossable), would make agreat sleeper, and a full Carrera GTS body kit incuding headlights makes a 924 look much better.

Hard to narrow it down to 1. I'd like a late 951, turbo S for variety and the ease of power upgrades. I love the look of 928s as well. Unique and striking car. They are relatively heavy to drive and not near as much fun as a 968. 928s have an advantage in that you can remove rear seat padding and comfortably install child-seats sp the whole family can enjoy Porsche ownership. We're considering one for this very reason! Prices of 928s re pretty low considering their spec, although up-keep can be vicious

Theres a mechanic in the Rockville area who gave me a quote on my tranny problem back in 07. We talked a bit about Porsche's and I told him how I love the rush of the V8 in the 28. He told me 5 grand gets me one and we walk over to 3 or 4 repaired and abandoned 928s. He then goes into the "cost of ownership" talk with me and tells me just how practical my 68 is in comparison. Very interesting talk.

Another option to throw out there, a V8 in the 968. There are kits and the motors are cheap..
