Adding a light bar
#1

I'm typically not a fan of add-on mods that serve little to no purpose. I'm even more against ones that originate with other cars and is then sold as glue on mods for the masses. i.e. the BMW Halo's, Maserati side vents and the Supra tail lights.

But this Audi light bar, which is now being used by VW, Porsche and Rolls, has really gotten my attention. I'm thinking of adding it to my 68. What was that? Where am I going to put it? Well let me ask you all 2 questions.

1. Would you add this light Bar
2. Where would you stick this light? ( I'm only looking for suggestions on the car! )

#1 - No. Looks good on Audi and newer cars because they were designed with it from the beginning.
#2 - I wouldn't install it.

In my opinion, I think it would look out of place on the front of a 968. Additionally, I'm not a big fan of mixing lighting types (LED vs. regular/halogen bulbs) on a car. I think having an LED bar and then regular bulbs elsewhere on the front would look "cobbled."

I do like the look on the Audi however...

I like the new Audi lights....on the Audi. As far as adding something like this to an older car, any older car for that matter, like biotechee, I don't like mixing bulb types. Perhaps you could pull it off on certain vehicles if you did an entire package, but just sticking this in place of the fogs on the 968 or somewhere else probably would be a bad idea.

I love those things...on Audis. Saw them on the new 911s and IMO they don't look particularly suitable to that car. Not sure how it will look on our car. Maybe someone here can photoshop that feature on a 968 and post the picture so you have a better idea

lol - yeah - i knew i would be alone in the room on this one

headlights - 2 big round ones
fog lights - hidden as much as possible
turn signals - yellow only
tail lights/brake lights - red only

sensing a pattern here?

like i said, old and cranky

OK, So we all agree that I should do it!

The photoshop idea is a good one. As for where, I was thinking under the fog lights or in place of them. To make it look like it belonged there, perhaps filling in the open gap with air intakes. Yes, 2 intakes where the fogs were with this light bar underneath. Wonder if the inlets could assisted the SC.

OK, who's our photoshop guy?

check your local laws first - many states have inspections, and non-DOT approved lights, or lights installed too low or too high, can prevent registration and/or get you cited

LOL- Bob, I gotta say, you do amaze me. You are truly wired different. Everyone else is caught up in the aesthetics, function etc. yet in your head a flag goes up and you clearly see whats typically never even thought of till were at the DMV.

Your like Neo.

lol - i've probably had every complication known to man when it comes to mods on cars, and learned the hard way on a number of things, so i tend to think with a wide vision when considering something - when i consider a project, i approach it much like a game of chess, looking at the whole board, and keeping a goal in mind while contending with attacks

i'm not a fan of these lights, especially when installed on cars as an afterthought. They can be made to look good, but it would take a ton of work. 993 litronic retrofits that fit perfectly (which would include modified fenders) and maybe replacing both the turn signals and foglights with a single piece that wraps around and has an led light bar integrated in the design. A lot of work indeed. Of course, at that point....you would want a set of OE looking LED taillights installed as well. All of which can be done...but at what cost and how much downtime.

I think the LED christmas lights on the front of Audis look very cheap and tacky.

When was the last time someone said "Oh, look at the LED lights, those look really elegant. I bet they were expensive."

They are harsh and spotty-looking. Bleagh. BMW Angel Eyes look rather clean and nice by comparison.

Good catch on the turn signals as they almost incorporate into the fogs. Hmmm... Back to the Brain storm.

Don't like 'em, no I don't. However, if you can figure out a way to put the new wavey 5-series tail light pipes on the back of this car I might go for it. I became mezmerized by the things on the freeway on ramp the other day...

I'm looking at the back of the 5 series via the link you have and all I see are the little red lenses over the tailpipes. Is that what you mean?

7-series, sorry. They look really wild on the car.

i found myself staring at the taillights of a couple of cars last night, and noting all the tiny LEDs, and how different the lens looked - you could see all the way to the rear

it looked like somebody had too much time with their "lite-brite" as a kid

Lite bright. Great toy.

I like those tail lights. I would like to freshen up all the lights on the 68 but its nothing I would rush out to do. That light bar is still on my mind though.
I think I can pull it off. Having that single bar under the lights will flow with the lines of the car nicely.

replace the rear "third brake" light with those ? i have the LED kit installed in that one, but of course it's not nearly the same bling a marquis light set will give it. the first thought which crossed my mind when this thread went up was that many people already think this is a new model porsche, those kind of lights will probably serve to confirm the newness factor
