Hard to believe no one here has done this.

There are at least 2 of them running around. Both with SBC's {Small Block Chevy (engine)} under the hood.

This could be in your favor, find a low mile car, you keep the motor and he gets the car to put the V8 in there..

nah - then he'd be cursing me forever for contributing to the nightmare of such a conversion and the subsequent years of dealing with it

I was talking about a Porsche V8 swap. I've seen the LS1 but surprisingly have never seen any concrete numbers on them. If one could squeeze in the 5.0 or 5.4 L V8 form a 928, now that would be something special.

If it could fit, it would be a tight fit....really tight. the 5.4L Porsche V8 has dual overhead cams. an LS2 is a pushrod motor, and is much smaller externally.

I also chose a 924, but I would convert it into a rally car.

I would love to experience a 944 Turbo or 928 GT, but they really wouldn't suit me as a daily driver.
An automatic 928 (S4 or GTS) would be good, but I would expect the driving experience to be similar to my 968 Tiptronic.

So, I would get a 924 (or maybe an early 944) and convert it into a rally car.

But if the poll included a Panamera, which is available as a rear-drive only model, I think my vote might be different.

928 GT or GTS gets my vote all day. Second would be a 968 coupe to compliment the cab. If the list was expanded to include the normal 911 variants, a 1998 993 C2S is Vesuvious is tops.

I am, of course, excluding the truly unique 911 variants like the 959, GT2, GT3, etc. Only including those which could possibly end up in my stable (hah! yeah right!).

Black Forest Racing did one several years ago. Car is black and the engine was an LT1. Nice car and its FS. Too bad I already have two P-cars.

I vote for a 924 as well. I love my 968, but its not nearly as usable as the 924's.
Speaking from experience (I currently own a 1980 924, and a 1978 924 that is undergoing a Carrera GT conversion) these cars , while underpowered, have amazing handling in stock form, and are fairly cheap to upgrade suspension to make handle even better.

The '78 is set up for Rally right now, with poly bushings, uprated springs, shocks, and sway bars. It is getting a wide body kit installed, as well as significant weight savings. I estimate when I'm done ill have a car weighing in around 2400 lbs and 130hp (euro spec motor, with a cam, headers, and intake work). Once I'm done I don't think ill notice the lack of power as badly as before.

The bottom line? 924's cant be matched for price, performance, and usability. Ive never worried about steep driveways or speed bumps in a 924, and I don't mind taking it out in the rain and snow, which my 68 will never see. With a little bit of money you can make it handle like its on rails as well.

Well my second Porsche is a 1963 356B T6 Coupe. If one of the two had to go............."ol blue" would be history! Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Carl, any pictures of the 924's? I really have a soft spot for clean 924's. The simplistic lines of the car grew on me & the Carrera GT/GTS just look menacing.

Here is a pic of my 79 on the day I bought it.
looks pretty clean, but there is a fair bit of rust on the driver side front fender, which is what prompted me to replace it with fiberglass flares.

Here is one of the few pics i have of the '80.
It doesnt show the car very well, but the longblock looks nice in front of it.

I bought this car when I was 15 and swore from that day on, only Porsches will park in my driveway. So far ive been lucky enough for that to hold true.
