A wheel mess
#1

When it comes to researching the weight of all the wheels available there is no comprehensive accurate list. Flash has a BBS list which seems good but there is no all-encompassing one for our cars (owners) major choices.
I have 17" C2 Turbo Porsche wheels and have found weights of 24 and 26 lbs. mentioned - is this about right?
I would like to change to either Allegerrita HLT at 19 lbs or Veloce 3.6 Speedlines which weigh in at about 25 lbs. (I think). To complicate this I am only thinking about reducing unsprung weight when choosing  the Allegerrita but with the SC kit do I really care anymore?
I will also be changing tire sizes so there is the extra weight of an 18" tire to also consider.
Once again, with the SC do I really care?
Thoughts?

I went with Kodiak customer 16x8.5 wheels - good price at $2000 built (3 sets in group buy) + shipping and the wheels weigh 17 pounds.

Dave,

I'm not sure which size your 17" wheels are...but here are the parts numbers/sizes & proper weights for all the C2 Turbo's avail for the 968.

Optional 17" C2 Turbo's

7.5 x 17 ET65 part number 965.362.124.05 23.37LBS

9 x 17 ET55 part number 965.362.128.00 26.01LBS

Optional Winter use 17" C2 Turbo's

8 x 17 ET52 part number 965.362.126.01 23.37LBS

9.5 x 17 ET68 part number 965.362.128.05 27.56LBS

They are most def. a heavy wheel. Heavier then the 18" 993 hollow Spokes on my car.

I don't have a comprehensive list, but if you would like...i could post up all the 968 specific wheels that were standard or optional. size/et/partnumber/weight as well as that same info for my hollow spokes.

Fox Tks for the precise info on my rims. It would be nice if there were a pinned list of weights as a reference. I'm still on the fence about wheels until "F" chimes in on the supercharger rendering my question moot.

*These are 18" Hollow Spokes which were optional on the narrow Body 993's. They fit perfect on our cars. Anyone who considers purchasing these, make sure you do not buy the Wide body rear wheels. They are 10 X 18 ET40 part number 993.362.140.00 & weigh 25.13LBS. They will not fit.

I've found a couple of sources of wheel weights. Can't vouch their accuracy but cross referencing may be helpful in gauging this

Every time I think about upsizing wheels I look at those weights, then read someone saying that they notices a "less power" and I wonder just why do I want to add all that unsprung weight? 7 lbs per corner?? And the tires weigh more too....
