a loud rattle
#1

Hey guys,

I had my car on a lift last weekend trying to huntdown the cause of a rattle that i'm having under acceleration at ~1600-1800, and not in neutral. I pulled off the belly pan and look all around, it seemed like I had clearance everywhere. I'm getting back up on the saturday to put rotors on and I want to really try to get rid of this while I have the chance again. It sounds like its coming from the forward area of the engine compartment. Can anyone list a few things for me to check...

thanks,

vinay

take a look at the little heat shield that goes around the sender down on the lower passenger side next to the exhaust manifold

notorious for exactly that rattle - a little CAREFUL bending and you should be able to quiet it down

I have a similar rattle - seems to be coming from the rear (around transaxle). Only happens at low speed/rpms, especially just after shifting to 2nd under mild acceleration, and ONLY when the engine / tranny is cold. After warming up, not rattle. Almost makes me think it is an exhaust shield, but at the rear of the car. It doesn't seem to be the same problem described here - any ideas?

This thing keeps bugging me, it is the cause of the rattle. I pryed it back a bit with a screwdriver, but so far I have only changed the rpm range in which rattles. I'll try again this weekend if I can get under again.

it may be cracked - mine wasn't, but to get it to finally shut up, i actualy had to form a kink in it so it was no longer flat - this was kind of like a "V" shaped ridge bisecting the material
