A/C 134a recharge
#1

where's the lower valve located? I found the upper right there by the driver-side headlamp...

I found a recharge canister with pressure gauge attached for $32. It's a synthetic, includes a leak-stopper-filler thing and also promises to be colder than usual. I'm hoping all are true. Anyways, the quick release only fits the lower valve.

Donde esta, por favor?

underneath on the compressor......there is a cap over it. May not need to jack up the car to get to it.

HI Guys,

I wanted to top off my 134a freon in my car, so I bought a bottle of 134a with a sealer and oil. I read the can and it says to run the car with the A/C on high for at least 3 minutes and test it with the guage on the low side at the compressor and it should be at 45 lbs. Is this correct? I ran my car today and tried it and it was at about 20lbs so according to the botlle I am low. I do not want to add any untill I confirm the 45 lbs as the instructions say. I also read that you shouldnt add 134 with oil in because if it works then it already has oil in and adding more oil could damage the compresser, is correct?

Thank You

I looked in the manual and it states that the Refrigerant charge is 860 g of R134a
But converting grams to lbs makes that less the 2 lbs .

So I'm of little help here as thats obviously not the info your looking for. But I tried and gave ya another bump. I'm sure a smart guy will be along soon .

You shouldn't need more oil unless a lot has leaked out, but a little more will not hurt anything as long as you do not slug it all into the compressor at once.
Your low side pressure sounds quite low but it's best to check a chart as the pressure is based on ambient temp. 40-50psi is right for 80F.

Here is some good data:

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info, I feel more confident now that the 45lbs is pretty accurate, the ambient temp right now is about 85-90 degrees here in Rhode Island. I'm going to take the car for a ride with the A/C on and test it when I get back and charge as needed.

Thanks for the bump Rhude

Thanks again guys
