968 sets new lap record at Road Atlanta NASA
#1

Just got back from the big Nasa Race this weekend at Road Atlanta. Happy to report that I scored the new GTS3 lap record at Road Atlanta with a 1:37.114 which occured during the Saturday Race. I finished second during that race when a fellow competitor in a World Challenge based M3 slipped by me on the start.

Also happy to report that I won the Sunday race passing some 8 competitors at the standing start. We have got it all caught on tape....

Can any one tell me how to download this race video which was shot from a Cannon (Camera that is) mini DV camera. As soon as I get instructions I will send you guys the first 20 minutes of this 40 minute sprint.

Congrats and Great job.

I have a Canon ZR65 mini DV. I attatch it to my PC via USB cable that came with the camcorder. Others use a firewire/ieee cable that you can pick up from any staples, bestbuy radio shack etc.

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

Once we plug up USB cable what next? What software can capture and convert the input signal from the camera or is it simply plug and play.

I'm not sure if the cannon camera came with any movie making software, they usually do. If it came with a cd or DVD, check that. Programs that come included are usually pretty easy to operate.

Charles,

Congrat's on everything!

Will you be at VIR for the NASA races at the end of March?

I'll be there on Friday to attend the super comp school, and hopefully to race Saturday and Sunday as a rookie with a provisional.

Nice run Charles! Congratulations. Regarding the camera its pretty much plug and play. Just connect your camera to the computer with the USB cable or a firewire cable. Assuming you're running Windows XP just turn on the camera once plugged in, and you'll be asked to choose from whatever video software is on your comuter. At the very least I would assume that your computer has Windows Movie Maker on it, which has very easy to follow steps to create a WMV file. You can then upload the WMV file to Google Video or YouTube and post the link here.

Congrats Charles. I can't wait to see the video. Jim's advice is good. Making the video is easier than driving and prepping the car.

Aren't standing starts fun!?! I love'em.

The video has been downloaded to youtube but it is taking longer than expected to complete...maybe because it's a 15 minute vid. I will attach a link as soon as it becomes available.

Richard: I have got the car down to 2518 lbs w/out driver. Rear Glass has not been changed to Lexan yet. Motor is bone stock and Rear Wheel Dynoed at 222 RWHP. I am allowed to be an 11 Power to weight with me in car but this is an impossibly low weight to achieve. We have chosen to run at a 12 power to weight ration which allows us the option to run slicks. I ran both slicks and Hoosiers this weekend but the Yokohoma Slicks did not like the cold temps (48 degrees) and felt very "off / on". we think even better times can be achieved once the temperature gets above 60 degrees.

The Nasa National Championship contenders are very competitive and I would have to be at my best to have a decent finish at the National Runoffs.

I will go and test / race at Mid Ohio in April...Will try to get three full weekends in before the September Nationals.

At a 12 power to weight ratio I will be allowed to drop the cars weight to 2450 lbs. Haven't quite figured out what to take out next without removing engine parts (The other two cylinders were already taken out by Porsche).

Nice work Charles. It is really great to know that the 968 is capable of that type of performance, in the right hands. Well done. Can't wait to see the video.

I just watched the video - WOW. That rearview mirror enhanced the experience. Overall, you've absolutely convinced me that I'm staying at the DE level. Just watching some of the maneuvers had me sometimes ducking and other times going for the brake. WELL DONE - and thanks for sharing.
