968 seats
#41

What a very clever and simple solution.

I may even have a look at doing this myself. Thank you for posting it up.

I owned a 1983 Porsche 944 with the M030 option code. Along with the sport suspension set up, it included sport seats. These seats were full manual, as I recall and I would imagine they would fit in a 968. I found that the they would reduce the circulation on the back of my legs and so I was constantly having to readjust the seating position on a long drive. My 94 968 has the standard seat and I like them a lot better. I think that if I was really driving the car hard I'd still keep these seats but use a 4 point harness to keep myself planted. I've probably have not adjust the seat settings on the 968 in a year. I've driven it no stop from the Bay Area to Beverly Hills, about 425 miles with no discomfort other than an aching left (clutch) foot from LA stop and go traffic.

As noted elsewhere, a good auto upholstery shop can reshape your seat anyway that you like.

lol - that guy is nuts. some idiot will probably pay that much though. typically they go for about $3500 in 4 way, and a bit over $4k in full power heated.

re: late seats - just drove non-stop from albuquerque to socal in a car with late seats. no problem. completely comfortable. i was tired, but no discomfort to speak of. actually surprised me.

Here's a thought ; if you have your seats reupholstered you might consider having the shop replace the OE cushions with " memory foam " material ; the same type found in the mattresses and pillows ( posturpedic, or therapedic, or whatever that thing is caled ..) . Could be a solution to many sciatic issues and general discomfort on long drives. Of course, you can just buy a couple of lumbar support and seat cushions made from that material and place them on the seats while driving..

The downside with memory foam in the car setat is the same as with your mattress ; the wife notices the imprint on the passenger seat ( just as she moght on her side of the mattress ) and confronts you with a " - hey, this does not look like MY butt print !! ". Incidentally, never answer : of course not, yours would spill over the seat's edge .."

I have the stock 4 way seats right now they look good and are pretty comfortable but I have two big problems with auto crossing I would love to lose the 60 pounds and am amazed by how much more you can feel with a good pair of buckets. My dad has some nice recaros in his 924s race car and they make a massive difference!

What year was your dads 924 race car, as i had a 1949 924 which i sold in New Jersey. It was what Porsche called at the time "the 924 D production car". front rear stabliziing bars , koni shocks, perrelli tires, 928 4 wheel disk brakes , trans axle transmission. Was in Guards red with plaid interior. They made 400 in the world and brought 100 into the USA. Unfortuantly I lost all the serial numbers of that car. It also had the crappy 924 audi engine.

DS, why wouldn't you just say,"it was a young blonde hottie with a set you wouldn't believe and legs up to here? She won't believe you anyway and at worst you get a glare!

I often tell Liz, it was your daughter!

Rap! What can I say? As far as seats go-just drove my 944 today-the seats are def more comfy than the 968 stock seats. But what can I actually contribute here since I'm blonde, 5'4" and weigh 110? (focus on the blonde-what do I know anyway?...)

i like the early 968 seats a lot more than the late ones. they fit my back and butt a lot better. some people feel the exact opposite though.

Having had 944s for a long time I think the early 968 seats which are identical to ( or at least they look identical to ) the 944 seats, IIRC , I would agree that they are slightly more comfortable than the late 993 style...but only slightly so. I have driven numerous 8 + hr trips in both type of seats and I think I was / am equally rested at the end of the trip in either seat, but perhaps the earlier ones are just a bit easier on the butt during those long drives . That said , I really never liked the looks of the early ones and still don't . I think the aesthetic difference is night and day in favor of the new style.

e968, at the risk of stepping deeper into it, I'm not a vertical discriminator. Nor would I fall for I'm blonde what would I know! The comment was specifically directed at DS who is a leggy man! Lol. How do you know whether you have an early or late seat apart from the year of your car?

early seats have multiple panels, about 3 inches wide, running left to right. late seats only have 2 big ones.

Flash-you're the man-late seats in my 968 and I still think my 89 944 stock seats more comfortable. Guys-I drive NC to NY every 2 months or so (9 hrs at speed with moderate traffic-always worse and longer) -seats matter.

And yes- do feel a bit out of place here-my first forum effort So the "blonde" comment. I'm not a gear head, do not do my own work, but do work with some of the best P techs on the east coast. Manage restorations-from 356 on up. Source parts. Manage shops. Love my cars. (fyi learned to drive on an MGB)

Look to you all for your information and experience. Love learning more.

e968, you would be surprised at how many of us are not gear heads, myself included! Rest assured I wasn't offended at your blonde comment. That is if you weren't offended by my leggy comment. We have so few, at least that I know of, women on the Forum that on occasion we forget ourselves. Please bear with the Neanderthals among us. I try to keep these guys politically correct but as you might imagine, it's difficult! Lol

Man, I must be missing everything this morning.

Who's offended? By what? Is it my fault again?

And for that matter, who said e968 is a woman? After that plump lady pimp-slapped me in the elevator for asking when she was due, I don't assume *anything*. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
