968 Market Update in April Excellence
#41

our car will never be in the category of the 57 chevy - it was just never iconic nor popular - there was never any love for the car that would bring about the nostangia necessary to put it in that category

it may eventually be as collectable as any other odd ball car like the sonnet, the europa, the opel gt, or the 240Z - some fine examples pull a decent price, but most of them are worth nothing

IMHO, the 968 will always be a toy type of car for most in the future.
I would think only a small percentage of cars with low miles, full service history, rare colors
and rare options will ever really be "collectable". Jeffs cab being a great example.

That being said, I also have the opinion that just because some colors are rare, does not make them valuable.
They are rare colors because people did not like them when the car was in production and did not order them.

Using Corvettes as an example, when watching big car auctions, colors do not really effect pricing. Cars with desirable options such as fuel injection or the 435hp cars bring the money. In some cases I think the non desirable colors bring a little less.
The newest market craze is survivors. Cars that have stood the test of time with only maintaince. No repaint on the body or engine parts.

also hold on to your period correct wheels, performance parts, and accessories.
These will be very valuable in say 10 to 20 years.

I agree about colors at times bringing a premium, at least at the mid-level. Older Mazda Miata's in Sunburst Yellow (I think that is the color name) bring substantial premiums, perhaps greater than 50%, as BRG is also at a premium. 1977 - 1891 Pontiac Trans Ams bring a premium in black and gold usually, even if not special edition. And there is a blue that does as well. Just using these examples from personal experience.

So that explains why I have so many C2 5 spoke 16" OEM wheels scattered about my shop...
