968 HOLY GRAIL? New Strut Tower Brace
#41
lol - eric - yeah - better do that before i get banned

we've talked about it plenty - actually tried calling you yesterday about it - seems like the right thing to do, even though rs barn will be the retail source and i'm just the designer and manufacturer
In that case, prob the best thing to do is have RS barn promote it...and you can reply to questions

fox - no worries - i had no hood issues once i installed the kla brace correctly either - smacking the vanity cover is the issue that spawned this project - that groove is not acceptable to me - i wanted to install the letters on the the top, and there was just no way - remember, i wax my engine bay - it has to look perfect as well as run right

smokie - yeah, the preload should be drawing them together, not pushing them apart, if only to reduce the length of the beam

the first batch of braces are on their way to pete - they will arrive by friday - i expect he will be shipping them out monday

just a note, and at the risk of sounding very pedantic, or like the sky is falling, please people, i cannot stress enough that when you get it, you follow the instructions to the letter - it does not matter how good a mechanic you are, please don't skips steps or try to "figure it out" - the instructions are very clear and easy to follow - there is a reason for every step, the installation order of each item, and every torque setting

i worked hard to figure this out, and i really don't want anybody to have any of the problems that have been experienced in the past with things like this - installed properly, it will be great - installed wrong, and it would be worse than if you didn't have one at all

Hey Flash, for those of us who ordered both the upper and lower braces, are both ready or should we expect to receive them separately?

I don't think so Brian. I just have a decade or two of earnings ahead of you to play with. From the pictures I've seen, your 968 looks great. Remember my 968 is for fun only, and doesn't have to be available everyday. In fact, it is in my wife's side of the garage on three wheels while its owner is mending a sore back. The other benefit that comes with age.

If NNJR accepts my license, I'd be glad to either right chair you in yours, or have you right chair in mine. I'll be riding on the NT-01s. Hoping the upper and lower bars are in my car before the 20th, so I can give a field report from the Pocono Triple header.

Flash - Any chance of posting the instructions in advance, so if there are any questions, we could ping you in advance of disassembly. Having written many a technical instructions, I'm aways surprised how different people would interpret a single sentence in different ways.

i understand what you are saying, it may be a good idea, and i'll think about it, but i don't want to post them at this time, and really don't want anybody else doing it either, because i would end up spending way too much time answering the same questions - i really need to spend the time on the new projects - i seriously need to decrease the amount of time i spend on this danged box

pate and i are happy to discuss them if you have questions, but i wrote them to remove interpretation - they are VERY specific - the instructions for the lower brace are 6 pages, and the strut tower brace are 5 pages - i think i got everything (lol - though i did forget to type in a torque value on the lower ones, and it had to be added in at pete's) - i think it would be better to handle the issues as they arise more directly

my best suggestion is to read them first with the parts laid out in front of you - i know it goes against every "guy rule" in the book, but it really is neccessary - as an example, there is a hood alignment check section that must be done before anything is started - i really don't want anybody taking their car apart in preperation before they read the instructions and see the parts

lol - i may end up changing my mind tomorrow, but i just don't know right now

install note - one jam nut goes against the brace, another against the coupler - the third also goes against the coupler on the heim side - i will add a photo and include this change in the install instructions

I installed my Upper last night. Hoping to install the lower tonight. The upper installation was very straight forward.

i have sent a new file to pete for substitution of instruction and further clarification on step 7 - it shows and depicts clearly the orientation of the huts - it is very important that each nut be against a component, and not against each other

Got mine ! Bob installed it on Friday on a side street in Hollywood with the car parked under a large tree, shielded from the burning Southern California sun. Hmmm, would that make him a shady tree mechanic ?

Saturday I was at the Chelsea vs. Galaxy match with a bunch of friends ( most of which are car crazy dudes ) - every single one of which were highly impressed with the look, the fit, the craftsmanship,

etc - one said it looked as if it was a Porsche factory original

In the words of Borat : I liiike. Very niiice.

I received my bar on wendsday from Pete. (Thanks!)

Polished and Painted it on thursday and installed it on friday.

Flash, you did a great job! Thanks.

One thing I really like is it hides the rub marks caused by the KLA bar.

I am going to install the lower brace when I do my rod bearings and oil pick up tube.

Attached are a couple pics from my cell phone. (My camera cable is shot)
