I'm with you - bumper cover removal is the right way to go. I just knew it was going to take a while for me to get to that and I couldn't get to teh gas station without the stupid thing flying off.

There's a DIY on bumper cover removel in the DIY section. Unfortunately no pics yet. If you tackle it please take some pics so we can add to the DIY.

Hey all, it's been awhile.

I had a run in with a cement pylon that I "couldn't" see and it left a nice sized scratch on my bumper cover. I'm getting it resprayed this week, and i was wondering if i should just remove the bumper cover and take it to them instead of them charging me to R&R the bumper ( the price they quoted me for the R&R was the same price as painting the bumper). My only concern is replacing the rubber strips on both sides where the bumper meets the side fenders. I also figure since my other rubbers have shrunk, i'd replace the side skirts and the rear bumper gaskets. Does it make sense to bring them the bumper and have them strip and respray it?

Thanks,

Rene

I would remove the bumper, you may as well have your rockers painted at the same time if the paint is in need.

This way you can change the rubbers.

I just ordered all the body gaskets from Sunset Porsche (price under $90) this included the door handles, mirrors, skirts and bumpers.

Yeah, I went ahead and ordered all of the body rubbers to replace. I might as well get the side skirts repainted as they have a good bit of road hash marks. Am i going to have a problem matching the paint? I just detailed the car and put several coats of polish so it's looking brilliant. I just don't want the newly painted rocker panels and bumper to stick out like a sore thumb, and i don't have the money on hand to have the whole car repainted.

Aside from the painting, i have a power stapler and the stainless staples needed to attach the front two rubber gaskets to the bumper cover. I'm curious, for those that have tackled this, how easily is it to align and attach the rubber strip on the bumper cover? I know the rest of the body rubbers are pretty self explanitory.

pretty easy - just make sure you don't dispose of the little metal pieces inside the rubber ends (you'll know what i'm talking about when you take it apart) - sometimes the new ones are missing the package

I ran into the same issue on the drivers side near the rear wheel. Used clear silicon adhesive with a piece of tape to hold it in place over night. Worked just fine. No visible means of support.

Great timing. I just decided to tackle my side panel rubber beading earlier today. I found the DIY on this topic a few days ago and it has been a big help so far. I will take some pictures and post then if I can, but I don't think Rookies are allowed to post pictures. I'll give it a go though.

If all goes well (meaning no big delaying hickups), I will tackle the front and rear bumpers in a couple of days.
