944 to 968
#1

Hi I own a 1987 944s and I am thinking of getting a 968.  I have always liked the 944 and am curious of the 968 and want to learn more about this car.

Up front I can tell you that many mechanical improvements where done to the 968 over the 944. The 968 is much easier and less expensive to work on. I had a 944 for years and loved it, but the 968 was a big positive surprise. My mechanic claims that the 968 is far better mechanically  than both the 944 and the 928.

Enjoy, and check back with the forum often.

Do your research on this site to learn what is important in terms of maintenance and then be patient.  Pay extra for a car that is "sorted" and has documentation of work done.  If you don't see proof of maintenance, you will be paying for someone else's (maybe multiple owners) deferred maintenance.  These cars are all over 25 years old now, so time and wear are both big factors.  People who maintain these cars correctly will never get their money back out when they sell.  Buy from one of those people.

Thanks for insight an encouragement.  It seems like there is no going back to a 944 after owning a 968.  I will take my time and wait for the right one...

Yep, take your time. It took me 3 years to find what I wanted.

If you wait 3 years, you may not be able to afford the right one Wink

My point was not to wait 3 years but to be very picky. As all of you know there is a lot of junk out there. Let the car you want come to you.......don't chase it...and that could take a little while.
