3-spoke wheels?
#1

I'm thinking of installing a CS-style wheel and have kind of lost track of the sourcing and installation issues. Anyone care to write this up a bit? Many thanks in advance...

www.ajusa.com is where i just got mine - you can see a shot of it over on "sneak peek"

a 3ohm resistor across the airbag connector pins fakes the system out (do all work with the igntion off) - other than that, it's a real no-brainer

John, I bought mine from AJ USA. Early in the year they put them on sale for less than $250 and it is well worth the price. I love the look and the feel of the wheel and not having the airbag is of no concern to me since I always use my seat belt and shoulder harness. There is an excellent article about installation in the archives of 968.net. good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I purchase my CS wheel from Carnewal.com Gert had access to the Factory embossed crest version. It is a gorgeous wheel, it was one of my favorite mods in that car!

Thanks folks. Yeah, Flash it was your photos which put the bug in my ear.

Can anyone steer me to the appropriate area within the AJ USA site? I can't find it where I'd think I would.

Try this link for the wheel:

AJ USA Steering Wheel Page

Note you have to order the crest separately, but they will install it for you on the horn pad.

You will also need to order the horn contact wiper from Sunset, # 928 652 104 00

I have a few pictures of my install, I'll see if I can put together a DIY.

I'm afraid this went nowhere. Doesn't really matter: I save money this way. But there were no 968's on the pulldown list. I entered a '91 944S2 instead and it let me put the wheel in my cart. Then I tried to enter the "RENNXMAS" free shipping discount and that wouldn't take. Then. when I started looking for the crest I couldn't find it. At this point I called them (twice) for help with this and finally reached someone. Carefully explained what I was trying to do and he said the wheel wouldn't fit my car, end of conversation.

Thanks to all, though.

Dave, the website indicates they don't have a wheel for the 968. Is yours the 930 wheel? Is it a direct fit or do you need a special adapter? Etc., etc.?

That is where flash and I both bought our wheels. Pick the 944 S2 car. The crest is on the same page as the wheel.

Don't listen to the sales people, this wheel fits perfectly. The adapter comes with the package. No need to order that separately.

Does bypassing the wheel airbag disable the passenger's?

Nope. Passenger bag stays active. As far as the computer is concerned, with a 3 ohm resistor in the connector, it still thinks there is a drivers airbag attached.

Wow! Amazing how much that wheel improves the look of the cockpit! No doubt if Porsche had their way, they'd have installed this wheel and just reminded their owners to buckle up!

I thought I read somewhere that this wheel or others like it are relatively easily detached and reattached - the ultimate theft deterrant system! Is this true?
