2009 Dodge Ram Speaker Upgrade
#1

So, I have been throwing around the idea of upgrading the speakers in my new Ram. From the factory it came with 5 - 3.5" (3 in the dash and 2 in the roof above the rear seats), 4 - 6x9's (one in each door) and an 8" sub under the rear seat. The total wattage of the system is 506, I think the sub is 250 of it but I haven't been able to find a breakdown of the other speakers yet.

Does anyone have experience with 3.5" speakers? They need to be changed because the head unit uses them for some mids and highs and they sound horrible. Not sure if they are separate outputs from the amp or if they are run off a crossover from the 6x9's. The third one in the middle of the dash must be separate because its the center channel when watching movies.

I am not looking for audiophile sound but should I swap out the 6x9's for 6.5"? Also would it be worth going component rather than coaxial?

The sub isn't horrible so I might leave it alone. I know I can make the paper speakers sound better with a signal processor and possibly some new amps but for the money I think speakers could make a huge difference.

Dodge already offers a Kicker upgrade for the already upgraded Alpine system that I have but they want $400 for 4 - 6x9's. I've never had Kicker speakers but have had great results with MB Quart (pre-Asian built) and JL Audio and most likely I can put in higher end 6x9's for less than $400.

Sorry for the mass of information and questions, I spent a good part of last night researching and ended up where I started. Please give your opinions.
