Worst OEM speaker ever?
#1

Well probably not ever, but certainly for the 2005 model year.

Two of these crappers came out of my Acura TSX front doors. They are supposed to be mids.

Check out that monsterous magnet, about the size of 4 quarters stacked on top of each other. See the quarter above the magnet for comparison. You could fire those magnets out of a gun and it wouldn't hurt anybody.

Shame on you Honda!

Yeah, these speakers look like crap. But don't make the mistake that bigger magnets are better. The huge magnets you see on speakers are ceramic magnets, which are not particularly strong in the overall magnetic scheme of things. An Alnico magnet of considerably smaller size can do the job of a big ceramic magnet, and there are probably other compositions that are even more powerful.

It's not how big it is... it's what it's made of.

Wow Bob, that's interesting. In all the speakers I've installed into cars over the last 20 years, I think they've all been the ceramic magnet type (tweeters excepted). I did notice these have a big hole in the middle of the magnet, they must be one of the different types you speak of.

Boy are they crap though. I remember turning up the stereo for the first time and wondering if I needed to take it in for a warranty repair. The new ones are much much better.

Cheers,
