1:attachment]     WOW!, These cars are awesome on the track, had my first trackday today, at anglesey, loved every minute of it, i was rather dubious at first as there was a lot of superfast cars around, db9, 12x gt3's, 5x m3 csl's, 6 gt3 rs's, 911 turbo's, scooby doos, you get the drift, anyhow neither of thes cars really took the piss out of the 968, i even passed a 911 turbo on numerous occasions, when he was in front he slightly pulled away on the straight, but on the twisty parts there was no contest 968 all the time. did a bit of lawn mowing went off twice, lots of understeer, or a heavy right foot <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> but i am truly addicted now, bring on next year. here are some photo's of the day. the white 968 is my friends, hope you like them, regards Chris.

Wow, you passed a 911 turbo on your first day... impressive. My first track day I was passed by a Mini Cooper, a VW Golf driven by a 19-year-old girl ( <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ), and an eight-year-old on a ten-speed... You must have some solid natural ability. Keep at it - it just keeps getting better. It wasn't until my 4th weekend that I finally passed somebody (talk about delayed gratification), but it felt sooooo good.

on my first day out on the track with the 968 i passed a lotus elise, a hopped up S2000, and a full race 911

Good job Pazzer, and great photos - nice to see two Club Sports on the track together! Enjoy the slippery slide down the Racing Slope....lots of us are on the same thrill ride, just in various levels of involvement. It all gets the adrenaline pumping and you can do it for a long time (70 this year). Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I'm still nervous about my upcoming track day ( could care less about MY health, just concerned about the smallest risk of a scratch or ding on my car ) but the more stories I see about folks talking about the experience, the more peace of mind I get... not quite at ease just yet, but hopefully getting there.



the chicken syndrome coming from someone who has driven 160 mph several times must sem odd, but not sure what it is about the track that bothers me... I suppose it's the fact that the 120, or 140, or 160 that I push once in a while is sustained for only 10 or 20 seconds, whereas at the track you're flat out the majority of the run..and have to sustain that with others near your car going at least at same speeds as you. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

you would not believe how much fun it is ds forget about those 160 mph jaunts our cars will never reach those speeds on track, it all about whopping faster machinery in the twistys, all i can say is go and do it, its fab, lots of people show an interest in the 968's at trackdays, i'm glad i modified it the way i have, its fairly quick, it handles awesome and it stops superb. cant wait till next year when iwill do a lot more track time. regards pazzer. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Your going to have great fun. The concentration you will have on track leaves no room to be nervous, so that won't be a factor, and your instructor will be sure you are safe. You will not believe how hard you can lean on these cars in the corners. If you get the chance be sure to ride with your instructor in his, or her run group. Very educational. The first time is special. Enjoy it! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks Pete, but my mates clubsport is a mint example and is far better cosmetically in the flesh but those headers and chip sure did the business, <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> its definately a faster car than his <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> , plus he says it picks up a lot quicker aswell, maybe looking to have your cams and stage 3 head in the new year if you can give me a good price <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> maybe a flywheel and clutch kit aswell, would you be kind enough to PM the cost of all these parts, so i can get saving, all the best, Chris. oh just a quick one what would you recommend to quieten the exhaust down to around 98db, reading 109db at the moment, but dont want to lose any power, just had it dynoed at 247.5bhp and 322nm of torque.

That is interesting that you are not worried about getting hurt! I recently completed my third DE and was third fastest in a group of twenty and got signed off for solo. I think that I have already reached a level that is not safe without a rollbar and a harness. I am at a standstill because it is expensive to set up the car with a bolt in rollbar, harness, and seat---not to mention tires.



So, I am taking a step back before I slip down that slope! I also think that it would be a matter of time before fast track days won't be enough...I will want to race someone!

On the other hand, if Bob whose car is in showroom condition is not worried about his, may be I should take a hint that this is not exactly Death Race 2000, the sequel <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> and crash incidents are extremely rare .



Btw, rare as the risk may be, have any of you ever bought insurance for these events ? Policies generally exclude coverage for anything that happens on a track, and at least in California which is one of the most litigious states, I can't help to be cautious ... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ...... not to mention damage to my own car !



If you have, can you let me know from which insurance company or organizaton ?



Not sure if the track compels every driver to sign cross-hold harmless agreements, including a mutual one with the track, which would make sense to me....unless statutorily claims of any kind are barred, but that still leaves your car's own damage issue..

Chris's car appears to spin up slightly quicker coming out of corners - there is some additional oomph that gets him going, it does not pull away hugely, but is definately noticeable <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> . I found that at higher speeds i did draw back a little of the gap <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> . My car has feelsas though it has lost some of its 'urgency' since i fitted a Cargraphic exhaust system with 100 cell cat.

frog - i can't say that i am surprised you felt a loss - there are tests out there showing that the cargraphic makes a loss, regardless of any thusfar unsubstantiated claims overseas - this really sucks, as it is probably the most expensive unit out there



i too noticed a small loss with the 100 cell cat - i gradually went up in cat size to a much larger one and gained back the loss - it seems these cars don't like losing the restriction

I assume you're attending a regular DE in which all of the novice drivers have an instructor in the right seat. Correct? If so you need not worry. Metal to metal contact is pretty much unheard of in those kind of events. People are not allowed to pass you unless you give them a signal to do so, and the on board instructors enforce that rule.



Unfortunately your insurance probably excludes DE's. Look for language about events held on a course designed for racing. You can by special insurance for DE's but it is expensive. Better to self insure IMO, but search the Rennlist Racing and DE Forum for details if you're interested.



You won't get in without signing a waiver, usually with both the track and the club holding the event. Most waivers will hold the other DE drivers harmless, so any damage will be your responsibility.

I asked my insurance agent before my first DE, and she told me that as long as the event is NON-COMPETETIVE, and UN-TIMED, I'm covered. This probably varies from insurance company to company, but I've heard this from other people, so I assume it's fairly common. I would recommend you contact your agent, because if something bad does happen (and I agree with Jim that this is exceedingly rare), at least you won't have any surprises. If your insurance company doesn't cover you, you might consider shopping for one that does, if you think you will be doing these events regularly (and they are addictive!). Good luck.

The DE events I attend and even open track days at Spokane have a standing prohibition of any timing equipment and all passing is point-by and thus not racing. This is to assure insurance companies that we are driver training and insurance is valid. It has worked in the past, but will vary with companies.

As I understand it, many ( if not most..) insurance companies started to exclude DE events from coverage about two years ago . If a major insurer introduces a key / fundamental modification , all the others seem to follow soon after... particularly if it restricts your coverage

When you get your annual policy documents , look carefully at the declaration pages which summarize the the changes to terms and conditions of the expiring policy and then review the language in the provision itself ; most will now prohibit coverage for ANY use of a vehicle on a race track, or a course designed for performance driving, regardless if the event is a race or not, if it's timed or not, if it's competitive or not,

or if the purpose is to simply further driver education / driving skill improvement, with instructors on board or without.. Rat bastards ! - you'd think the risk is exponentially greater on a highway with people on their phones, smoking, putting on make up, reading, texting, writing notes, singing along to whatever crap their iPod is playing at the time <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> , while cutting across three lanes in front of you at 80mph, so they can take their exit to the office at the last second..



Oh well, I guess I'll just live with the risk of anything happening to the car, and keep my fingers crossed

( though I do take comfort in the fact that historically, accidents at these events are rare.. )



I think we get instructors only for 30 min., the rest of the day is on our own, but it is very controlled in the novice group and passing is allowed only with clearance by flaggers, never in or close to turns, etc.. so probably as safe as it gets.



Jim, ( or anyone else ) I take it the liability waiver is mutual where not only all drivers hold all others and the track & organizing entity harmless, but the drivers also are held harmless by the track and organizers for any damage to the track and/or injury to staff ? The way I drive I may run over the track janitor coming out of a turn <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



Sorry guys, not trying to ruin the fun of what I'm sure will be a great day, but being in the risk management line of work I see so many things, it's caused me to almost believe in Murphy's Law and perhaps I've become too cynical for my own good

Had thought about replacing the cat with the original to see what difference it makes.

Pazzer's car also weighs a little less (10kg's+ from memory), and although we have very similar mods he also has the torsion delete, so his car handling characteristics are different, especially under braking and turning in.



Pete - his car does get the attention now.......even though mine is rather white. Pazzer's has this rather agressive look from the front.....and people do ask about who it is on his sunstrip - i just tell them it is where he get his free range eggs from <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Most tracks I go to now have policies in place where you agree to pay for any track damage you cause.
