How exciting - and what a track to break into racing at. Can't wait to hear about the experience - and, of course, the results.

If you want any advice about how to add weight, I've been doing it for several years, so I'm becoming pretty expert at it.

Good luck with your racing efforts, the 968 is a joy on track! (Anchorman - I think he means weight to the car not to the driver). Bob Blackwell.

Thanks Guy's, this is very exciting I'm really looking forward to VIR and getting a whole new prospective on track events.

Jim, even though the car has to gain some weight the driver has 20 lbs left to loose to be in best shape for this new adventure, so you may see me out jogging .

Jim C. will you be at the event? I've been watching you race, very nice, well done!!

How do like your rear wing?

I probably won't be at VIR. My first race is likely to be NASA Mid Ohio in April.

I do like the adjustable rear wing in combination with the front splitter. I don't think it makes sense to run one without the other.

Awesome! Good luck with comp school...

There is a slight chance that I may make it down to VIR that weekend. Likely not racing, just mainly to test and tune... I echo Jim C; please do not hesitate to ask if I can be of any help.

Thanks for the advice Jim, when I get to the point of thinking about the wing and the splitter I will be in touch with you for advice .

Mid-Ohio looks like a great track, I hope I can get there this year,

Good Luck

Gary

Man - this whole 968 thing has been a blast. The black M030 is an awesome car and really needs a cage and race suspension and it would be a competitive ITR car.

Now that I've got the blue 968 field recovery car I can't choose which one to gut. I'm now leaning towards converting the blue one. Hell, if I wreck it I'd only have $575 invested in the car plus whatever race goodies I've installed. The blue one has turned out to be an excellent car. It's amazing that after sitting for 8 years every single button, swith, fan, light, works. Even the AC appears to be blowing cold - OK it's winter :-)

Are you going to get a custom cage made, my car came with a 6 point safety devices cage which is getting some more bars added to it.

When are you planning to do your 1st event?

Definitely want a custom cage but I am considering the safety devices cage with nascar bars on the driver side. Make sure any cage has a dash bar connecting to the two main cage front hoops. Inside the dash is preferable.

First event this year - think I'll do a PDX aka DE with the 968 at NJMP in March to just see how fast it is. I still plan on racing my ITS Mazda while I'm building the 968 - that way I'll wont be without a race car ready to go. The ITS car is fast and ran up front so no concerns there - except I don't like the cage in it. It's a bolt in cage that got welded up and just isn't up to par.

After that one PDX, all my other events will be races. Not going to spend any money this year testing - just racing. (Except maybe some PCA stuff with the 968).

Hope to have a 968 race ready for the 2010 season. With two cars on my hands I figure I'm set. I'm going to see if I can power wash the field recovery car today even though it's freezing and take some pics of it clean - looks like a different car.

Dashbars always seemed like leg crushers to me... I guess that is why you say inside the dash. Would connecting the cage to forward part of the car remove the need for the dashbar (my cage now stops at the A pillars)?.

Best

I saw a Safety devices cage/seats and belts for sale on the 944cup forum.

Nice that you have an extra race car, that takes some pressure of you to get the 968 ready. Having a extra 968 as well, very cool!!

Will you be at any WGI events with Kojote, G52 or the May Trackmasters event. They will be great events for track time to test a car. All day open track

Thanks for the lead on the SD cage and gear - I will check that out!

I think that the dash bar really makes a huge difference in a side impact and overall strength. I've seen several cars, fortunately all passenger side hits, that had bowed like bannanas and had big intrusion into the passenger area. These were pretty hard hits.

I've seen lots of 944 cars with a bar beneath the stearing column and in front of the dash and they looked OK for legs - maybe the taller you get the more your worry on that one.

I'm going to make sure I have the dash bar but this will also be a dedicated race car.

Thanks for advice Ben , I will talk to Will at PMR tomorrow about the dash bar. The car is having more bars added to the cage in a couple of weeks which would be a good time to also add the dash bar.

My car is also a dedicated track car even though it still has license plates from when I 1st got it, many $$$ ago .

I got in touch with the guy selling the SD cage - all stuff sold - probably for the good since I should really put in a nice custom welded cage.

I'm going to convert the field car into racing. The black car is just too nice and I can always walk away from the blue one if I wreck it without too much heartbreak.

Pablo knows what I mean :-(

I wonder how much it sold for, I'm toying with the idea of a custom cage instead of putting $$ into this one.
