#1

Here's my 1st actual race, I was on R-6's thinking the rain will hold off. I was wrong , it started raining while we were on false grid

Nicely done! It's an act of bravery going out on slicks in the rain. Great car control and excellent judgement in traffic.

I dread racing in the rain - I've had good luck with the finishes but it's white knuckles time the whole race, at least for me.

Thanks Ben, however I have an unfair advantage as I grew up racing around the country lanes with friends in England often on rainy days. So it actually felt quite normal driving in the rain with a bunch of nutter's, however that could be considered a reflection on my mental state of mind .

BTW, the roads back then were not crowded like today and I do know that I was lucky to get through some stupid younger day's and am very glad to be be at the track going fast instead of a highway, it's a stage I think a lot of us go through unfortunately.

Rain-X is a great thing.
It rained my first weekend on R compound tires. I was amazed at how much grip they actually had.

Nice driving Gary!

Thanks, I was quite suprized too by the grip although if you look at the rear view in the video at 58 seconds in you see the BMW loose grip completely and spin off.
I used Dawn on the inside of the windshield to stop the fogging due to not having any heater or fan anymore.

Great drive Gary.... Love the way your car pulls up high... very, very strong.... Congrats on the race.... I have a good friend and instructor (Todd Reid) who was racing that weekend... he was on same group as you... he is a master at the wet as well... great race....

I was just there three weeks ago with Zone 2 PCA for my first visit ever to VIR. Funny short story; the 968 was not ready and my truck was rear-ended so I could not even borrow a car to trailer down. I really wanted to learn the track so I said to hell with it and showed up in my rental car from the insurance (while truck was being fixed). A Hyundai Sonata!!!!! LOL!!! You should have seen the looks and eye-brows in tech line and staging... Nonetheless, it rained ALL weekend getting worse towards Sunday. Well... I am the most famous Hyundai driver in Danville... faster than 95% in groups (White/Black), by Saturday, and by Sunday, even the flaggers were raging about the Hyundai kicking Porsche butt under torrential rain... I was just flying compared to everyone (except a few in rains, EVOs) with heavy rain... the skinny tires, front wheel drive, and 100 fwhp was just perfect for the big puddles and no-lift straights!

Anyway... to your point, driving in those conditions served and incredible car control clinic and a fantastic way to learn the track and key technical areas.... Look forward to crossing paths soon....

Thanks Pablo, my last session in the comp school was the craziest. My windshield completely fogged up in the pouring rain and the track had loads of standing water. However I wanted to complete the school so I could compete the next day, so I stayed out there and practically drove the last few laps from memory. Crazy but it's all part of the fun .

That must have been a blast in the Hyundai, you could have sold the video to Hyundai if you had one .
The looks you got in the paddocks must have been priceless!!

When are you next racing?
