Pocono Pro IT race this weekend!
#1

Heading out to the track tonight. Got my new RS Barn racing exhaust on the car - sounds friggin badass! New chip and dyno tuned for the max power.

Looks like its me and 15 BMWs so I'll do my best to carry the 968 banner - wish me luck! I'll post some in-car video.

ROCK ON Benny!!!!!!! What course are you running? You are going to kick BUTT!!!! Hopefully the newfound power and the aero advantage you have over the BMWs will give you the edge.... And remember: Good start, don't take too long to "warm-up", and be careful with those BMW drivers that run out of skill before running out of grip or track attempting to make passes....

Cheers my friend; and Good Luck!!!!

First - huge thanks goes to RS Barn - WOW! That new exhaust and especially the tune job - major improvement in throttle response and overall power, all across the curve. I was glad to have gone to Summit Point three weeks ago to warm up. It made a huge difference and I was able to get up on the wheel immediately.

We were racing the clockwise configuration with the chicane before NASCAR T1. The weekend had two qualifying sessions, one qualifying race and three races. The Pro IT race was the highlight and was 45 minutes, the other two were North Atalantic Road Racing Championship races and each were 25 minutes. I was able to grab pole position for each of the races and tried a couple of different things. Did the outside pole - not the best. Tried starting in third, not the best - stick with second at around 4K RPM and the torque is perfect. Was able to finish first in class and second overall in two races and overall winner in the qualifying race and overall winner in the last NARRC race.

Conditions were excellent except the Pro IT race had a major rainstorm that hit around 25-30 minutes into the race. I was leading overall and missed the chicane turn - no brakes in the wet and had to let the trailing car by. Did the same thing again and had to let another car by before I got smart and adjusted my brake marker. Managed to get one of the cars on the last lap to finish second overall and first in ITR.

Great weekend - no wrecks. But half of the BMWs broke! Two drivers missed shifts wrecking valves, one cracked a hub, one overheated, one had a coil go bad - glad to drive a 968! Car was flawless.

Will try to post the in-car video once it's uploaded.

Here's a link to the race video. I had trouble uploading larger files - crushed the 2gig file down to 86 megs and the quality suffered.

Cheers!

CONGRATS!!! Nice driving.... Certainly great to have that torque coming off the infield into the back straight and off the chicane into NASCAR T1..... Well done!

Well done representing against those pesky BMWs... Cheers!

How much power are you making now? I dont think #75 pulls nearly as hard as yours on the top end of the range... I am supposed to be there racing July 15-17th the same course. Hopefully I wont miss it as I did NJMP last month :-( I'll have to get some pointers from ya!

Pete can I get one of those bad ass exhausts to flatten out the curves and not go over 204? I want to have 204rwhp and 204tq from 5k - 7k RPM.

Ben,

Great combination of driving skills and a great car - the lump came up when it started to rain but it did not phase you. The white BMW really gave you a battle but the 968 was the better car, especially on the straight-a-ways. Congratulations!

Thanks guys - this was one of the better weekends! Car is now making pretty awesome power but I'm not giving up my numbers!!!! Let's just say north of 225 HP at the wheels

Can't wait for the next race at NJMP on June 4th!

A belated congrats on your race results. I know this has been talked to death, but the 968 is simply faster than any 18-ish year old car with a 59 lb crankshaft has any right to be, which is testament to Porsche's overall design, your car's expert prep, and your driving skill.
