10 years ago today....
#1

December 13th, 1996, I purchased my 1992 968 cab. I had sold my 87 944 Turbo in June of that year and was on the hunt for a 968. I had fallen in love with 968s while visiting the dealer with my 944. The 968 resale values had fallen like rocks in the first few years so I found myself within reaching distance of being able to purchase one. I had $20,000. I had been looking for a while and had seen my cab for the first time in September. The private owner was selling it for $30K. Over my budget but I went to see it so i could see what Amazon Green looked like. A few weeks later i just missed purchasing a midnight blue 92 coupe with 17" wheels and only 19,000 miles for $20K. I was very disappointed but the first one there gets the good deal. I kept looking but things were slowing up for the winter when my phone rang. It was the owner of the cab. He was heading back to his homeland (greenland) in a few weeks. He wanted to move the car but also wanted to drive it until he left. He offered it to me for $25K, I then countered with $21K and we settled on $23K. The NADA on the car on that time was $30K so I got a great deal. It had only 29K miles on it. When I registered it I even had to pay more tax, based on the car's actual value rather then what I paid. 10 years later the car continues to perform great and provide lots of entertainment. It now has 51K miles on it and the only unexpected service issue I had was a thermostat. A great car. Hopefully we'll make another 10 years....

That is a great story. Thanks for sharing your memories. Do you have any of the photos from 1996 when you purchased the car?

Yes I do, with my 4 year old "car nut" son next to it. He's now 14 and still a car nut. I'll have to scan the photos. Had 16" wheels on it back then. I have since gone to 17"s and now 18"s!!!
