well, you were saying "without the audio option", option being the key word, which to me said, "without stereo", and since they all had a stereo (except for those that specifically had a stereo delete), i assumed you meant that the cars came with no stereo standard, and had to have a stereo option, which they did not - rather, you had to have an option to change the standard stereo one way or the other
Sorry, with audio option I meant more then 6 speaker option (M490).
since they made a whole lot more 92s over there than they did here (2500 hardtops vs 700 and 1300 cabs vs 700), and released the car a number of months earlier over there, i wouldn't be surprised that they used up the 944 stuff on those cars first
The panel issue only applies to hardtops. I don't believe the cars were released any earlier in the RoW. This is proven by the fact that both US and RoW specification cars exist with recessed hood badges. The recessed hood badge cars being build in '91 (between September and December?).

Unless i can find it to be a change in US cars, i'm inclined to leave it off of this list.

That's fair. I will try to find some <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

we only have recessed hood badges on early 92s - later US spec 92s did not have that, but i think all of the ROW ones do - i am having a bit of trouble right now finding the release dates (i have it in the internal sales training literature though), but it looks like early august 91 for ROW and later that year for US - the US launch presentation was dated november 91

regardless, so far i have not seen the panel in the uppermost shot (2 piece vinyl) on any US spec car - the separate grille appears to be on later cars, likely with bigger systems than the standard

again, i am happy to start a list of ROW differences

Based on production dates, I find that the recessed hoods and edged rear 968 emblems both disappeared sometime in November of 1991. I'm closing in on the cutover VIN. The vast majority of the 92s did NOT have these features.

I asked both sellers of the cars on Ebay to take a picture. Fortunately one has done so, please check the auction at:

I've parted out a RoW recessed hood badge car with VIN 0285. This car has been delivered on the 19th of November '91. Recently I ran into another car carrying VIN 0526. This one was also having the recessed hood badge. This makes me think that it was probably December instead of November. I must admit that I don't have an idea how many cars we produced per day at that time though.

Jeff, can you give a little more info about the US cutover VIN? I think for RoW it must be somewhere between 500 and 600. At a total of 2486 cars produced that is around 22%. Does that apply to US models also? In that case (total production being 653) that cutover would be close to #0144. This is for Coupes BTW.

yeah - that's the panel - i went back and looked at the other shot again, and more closely this time - looks like i may have made a mistake - what i thought was a separation in the vinyl was light coming up through the seat belt slot, and a peeling up of the edge of the vinyl - it made it look like the recessed area where the perforation is was a different piece than the rest, which is what made me think it was different

so, you could well be right about that panel being a 92 only thing - a bit more research to confirm that, and we'll add it to the list

sorry for the confusion

My early 94 car has the trunk-liner snaps, but was looking at a 95 at Cars N Coffee and it had Velcro for the trunk liner attachment.

I have the 10 speaker option on my '94. It has the #2 photo rear quarter panels, with the metal grill insert.

The trunk liner did NOT have any holes in it where snaps would have been, and the car has low miles and is very clean. I don't think it's aftermarket. However, the whole trunk has been lined with knockoff dynamat. I was interested in seeing his options sticker but it's been covered. The velcro pieces are only on the metal frame and are spaced the same as my snaps, but are little discs that are screwed into where the snaps would have been riveted. If he's there on Saturday I'll take some pictures.

I have more hood data on cabs right now then coupes. The highest VIN 1992 cab I have with the recessed hood is NS840406. This car had a November 1991 build. It is the 346th 1992 cab out of 667 in total. 1992 Cab NS840695 has an April 1992 build date. NS840727 was the last North American 1992 cab so it looks like 92 NA cab production could have wrapped up in May? I have seen 1992 Coupe, NS820700 (almost at the end which is NS820709) which has a production date of July of 1992. I have a number of coupes built in May/June/July 1992.
