WTB: WHITE or SILVER coupe - 6 speed
#1

I am located in Vancouver, Canada and have been searching for a white or silver coupe - 6 speed - for some time.

The vehicle should be in good-excellent condition (i.e., 'lowish' mileage, meticulous maintenance, no accidents) and although I'd prefer to buy a Canadian vehicle, I would be willing to import one from the U.S.

I have tried the usual sources: eBay (don't want to buy a car sight unseen), craigslist, autotrader, buy & sell but have not been able to find the right combination of colour/transmission/condition...or one in my area.

Any leads are appreciated. Thanks!

I am in Seattle, WA.

I have not seen any 968's up this far North for sale.

Since they are VERY rare up here, I would recommend looking were you are and adding in the cost of a plane ticket as well as a local PPI.

If I see anything I'll send you a PM or post it to this thread.

Vancouver eh? Greetings!

I've actually seen 2 (possibly 3) other white 968s around town. In fact, I bought the kind of car you're looking for through ebay, sight unseen, a couple years back. Had I known about this forum back when I was looking I could have asked someone to go look at the car and give me the low down. But it turned out to be a good-ish buy none the less. Importing to Canada was a bit of a hassle though; the seller was dragging his feet, and the friend who was dealing with importing made a couple errors which meant the car had to stay across the border a few more days. The wait was pure torture for me X_X!! If you have the patience for anything like that it might be your best bet for finding the car you want.

The car had 114K miles when I got it, and I think the second owner drove it hard. Plenty of leaks on the engine (which I'm finally getting rid of the last of them), but it allowed me to go in and do all the necessary maintenance (and upgrades) while they-were-in-there. A bit of a project car. The guys at Scan Automotive say the car looks great, drives even better for its age. I even have had people ask if its been repainted, or how clean the engine bay is, etc. So if you see something you like, ask someone here if they're able to check it out. And welcome to the community!

Thanks for the replies.

Silvy968 - thanks for offering to keep a lookout for one. I am definitely counting on having to fly out of town to view the car.

Renalicious - yeah, I've seen probably the same two or three white ones cruising around town here. There was a white one for sale a few months ago but it's a Tiptronic -- not interested. How much did the importing cost? Is it something that you would recommend taking on yourself, or would you hire a brokerage company to get it done, knowing what you do now?

BanditSC - Thanks for the leads. The ad from Canadatrader is one I've seen but that's ("$45,000 and up" !) a bit beyond my budget. The other one in Santa Rosa, California is what I'm after.

Does anyone here know anything about this vehicle? or this dealership?

When I clicked on the link for the "autobiography" of this car:

http://www.autotrader.com/ac-servlets/vehi...ler_id=56192658

-it listed the Carfax report. It spent its first three years in Texas before moving to California. Does this car have what you would describe as a "clean" history?

Thanks again!

If you're looking for an immaculate low miles example, I have a very rare cobalt blue 93 coupe. I have pix you can observe and you're welcome to come to Santa Barbara to view it personally. You won't be disappointed. It has 41k miles, painted rear spoiler, 17in OEM wheels, hi fi sound, and a rare two tone interior. PM me if you're interested. The car was featured in the Feb 07 Excellence magazine and will be in an upcoming book on the history of Porsche North America by Randy Leffingwell.

I paid a bit of a premium for the convenience of not having to deal with this myself, your millage may vary.

If you do it yourself you may end up paying a couple thousand on top of the price of the car anyways: Duty, registrar fee, BC motor vehicle compliance (day time running lights), transportation, storage fees etc.

If you get someone to do it for you, it's more convenient, but there are other fees associated with that, of course.

That white one in Santa Rosa, CA (link above) looks interesting, especially in light of the asking price.

The main thing that bothers me though is that it's had no fewer than four previous owners, according to the Carfax report linked to in the listing. Is this typical of a car of this age and of this caliber?

I'm hoping to find one well taken care of by no more than two (-three max.) previous, committed owners. Is this a realistic goal?

Not necessarily bad, given the price. At that price it leaves you a lot of money left over for the normal maintainance items and updates. If you do them, then you know they are done and not relying on the PO saying it was done.

I have a black on black leather 6 speed in Penticton.
This is a Japan import with left hand drive (same as canada).
Very low km. 67,000. Car overall is good to excellent shape.
Mechanically sound. New brakes and new tires. Have pics.
email me at vbknr@hotmail.com for more info.
I need to sell the car and would consider offers in the lower 20's.
I have just recently listed it and haven't yet shown car to anyone.
I looked in California for a car but although nice ones available
miles were way to high on most available. I think the asking price
is reasonable considering km. and condition. Let me know if you
are interested. I haven't posted on this site yet and will consider
all options soon.
Good luck and happy hunting!!!
