WTB - on the hunt for coupe with tan interior
#1

whats up fellas.

I'm new to the 968 online community and have had a blast so far. I've been looking around at different 968 options. I am not in a rush to purchase at this point.

Here's what I'm looking for:

* coupe

* 6 speed

* cashmere interior

Currently looking at a green 92 in Houston, here's my 968.net post:

anyways guys thanks and if you know of any candidates, let me know.

Peace

Sean

edit - I am pretty much considering all exterior colors now.

I hope you're aware that Porsche only manufactured a couple thousand of these cars and that the "newest" of these cars are over 10 years old.

A ten+ year old anything, let alone a Porsche, can quickly become a insatiable black hole for every last cent you thought you had saved (or hoped to save).

Rather than going after a certain color combo, you may wish to focus on the best "condition" 968 you could afford. Remember, you're better off stretching into an "expensive" excellent condition 968, than a fair high mileage condition 968 that's a "steal."

By the way, most PPI consist of:

4 wheels - Check!

steering wheel - Check!

engine - Check!

Geez, this is one of the nicest examples we've seen, let's go to lunch.

Be very wary of the $60-$160 PPI.

i could not disagree more about the color combo thing - nothing sucks worse than buying a car that is not what you wanted, and then continually having regrets forever, or even worse, envying the guy with the combo you wanted

i do agree about getting the best car you can, and not going cheap

i think if you are patient, you can have both - it may take a few months, like it did for me, but in the end, you won't regret it

take your time - look at a lot of cars - take more time - get lots of pics - step back and take some more time - drive them - be sure - this is going to be with you for a while, and a larger part of your life than most cars

still though, you can expect that any hardtop is going to cost you 20k by the time you are done, whether you spend 10k buying it and 10k restoring it / fixing it / setting it up, or you spend 18k buying it and 2k tweaking and outfitting it with goodies

don't rush and don't let the excitement dictate anything - get the one you want

I have to agree with Porsche. Nothing is worse than buying an older car that's been abused. There is a lot of variation between cars with similar mileage based on how the previous owners have cared for them. A prospective buyer may only be able to gain insight into a car looking at it and having a trusted mechanic perform a thorough inspection of the vehicle. Unfortunately, a lot of PPIs are exactly what Porsche says, a superficial inspection that doesn't even include a road or compression test. Considering how often the timing belt and water pump should be replaced having a mechanic that really understands this rare beast is also important. Given this, why not find the best particular car you can find? There are few colors the 968 doesn't look good in. Porsche made some pretty crazy hues on the mid 90s that are worthy of consideration. Also, how can you beat a black interior?

My dream 968 is a cobalt blue M030 coupe with black leather interior. I've never heard of this particular configuration existing in the US. If one became available, then I'd love the opportunity to own it however until then I'll be satisfied with a low mileage, meticulously maintained M030 of whatever color I can find. Best of luck in your quest.

07 Honda Civic Hybrid - silver with 07 EX rims

93 968 Coupe - cobalt blue, cobalt/white leather, 6-speed, factory C2 Turbos, 43k miles

70 Mustang Boss 302 - grabber blue/black, all original, matching numbers, shaker hood, Magnum 500 wheels, rear spoiler, tachometer, sport slats, wide ratio transmission -- a true time capsule

i don't think anybody is suggesting he get a beat up car - that's never a good idea, unless you plan to completely tear it apart

he is looking for a keeper and something he can drive a lot - that, by definition, means it needs to be something he loves - settling for a color, rather than getting the one you want, is a mistake - you can fix mechanical stuff - it's not easy or cheap to change colors

as an example of my point, from purely an economic standpoint, i would take a car with the right paint and interior and a blown engine, over a car with the wrong colors, that ran well - the wrong color paint and interior would cost an easy 15k to change - a rebuilt engine comes in well under that

as for black interior, they are beautiful, but also painful here where we have a lot of sun - something to consider if you live in a warm climate - they are also fairly commonplace and don't look quite as luxurious as the cashmere (not exactly sure why that is though)

bottom line - he wants what he wants - let's help him find it

thanks guys, persuasive arguments all around. Next step is for me to spend some time in one. Will take care of some of that this weekend. Thanks for the input.

In the meantime if you see my dream car hanging around the street let me know!

ent][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]Speaking of color, has anyone ever seen a maritime blue 968 in the flesh?

I've found and saved a couple of photos on the internet. However, all such cars have the side marker turn signal (indicating a ROW VIN). I'm curious if Porsche ever manufactured some maritime blue 968s for the US.

thanks MattS, welcome to the forum. I will check this one out also. Not my #1 color choice, and about as far away from Norcal as you can get, but mever know, might be surprised.

Had a good conversation with a guy from porsche-classified.com today, he seems confident that given time the right ride will find me. . . so just trying to patient. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Anybody had any luck with porsche-classified . com?
