Wrong Bilsteins?
#1

I had all four shocks replaced with Bilsteins a couple of months back (stock springs) at my regular porsche specialist. I was able to check the rear shocks today and note that the part No's are F4 B36 0161 HO. I take it these are B6 HD spec. My first set of search's did not show these as 968 compatible but 924 and 944 (82-84) fitment. I did find a site that listed these for the 968 (http://www.eshocks.c...86Q38&SubChar=Q). Most sites list the B36 2052 as the correct part. What if any difference would there be? I cannot find any further detail on the spec.

Whilst I have noticed an improvement in the handling since the work was done, it is not as much as I had hoped. Without another 968 to drive on different shocks I am unable to comment whether mine is not up to scratch. But logic says that if the F4 B36 was meant as a replacement for the 924/944 range with a different spring rating etc etc, then surely when fitted to a 968 its going to provide a less than optimum result?

Everything else, suspension wise, on the car is standard.

What P/N did they put on the front?

I wish I knew, but assume they are the matching bilsteins.

The only Bilsteins I have ever found for the front were inserts for 84 944 and you have to mod your original housings. I have run them and liked them though.

It's possible the shocks you got, if they were spec'd for the 924/944 but not the 968, are valved for a slightly lighter car. It's also possible there's no real world difference between the two. I'd say give Bilstein a call and see if you can find out for sure.

I think your right - Bilstein will be the only real source of truth for this one.
