Mounting a front license plate using tow hook hole
#1

Hi All,

I need to install a front plate and was wondering if anyone can recommend a kit or product that mounts using the tow hook hole.

I would rather not drill holes!

If anyone has done this I would be interested in seeing a pic of how it looks as well - seems the plate might sit a bit high on the bumper...

Thanks!

See, my only problem with this forum is that it takes forever to get a response

If the guy from 7 years ago or anyone else uses one of these I would love to see how it looks on the 968.

Thanks for the lead, Tamathumper!

IMHO that's going to look fugly, up high like that. if you need a front plate, you might be forced to drill.

Mines held with double sided sticky pads. Been on 5 years with no problems.

No drilling and can be removed relativeley easily.

Same here , sticky tape front and back .

Any automotive store should have some , i needed to remove the rear one once and had to get a new plate , i was happy not to take the paint off doing so ,the plate needed replacing before otherwise afterwards because it was bend so bad , so it works fine sticky tape .

3 MINUTES! If "forever" only takes 3 minutes, then the definition needs to be changed!

I wouldn't want my license plate in front of my air intake. Just sayin'. If you have the airbox mod, this would be a bad idea.

I'm going to use a suction cup and attach the plate to the right headlight. I think that'll look good.

jw - bang on - you would be surprised at how much of a difference removing the grille makes. during the stage 2 testing i saw quite a bit of a difference in power with and without it. it wouldn't make nearly as much of a difference normally aspirated, but with the supercharger it sure did.

i had a front plate holder mounted to my car (plate screwed to the plate holder), however my bumper had no holes drilled in it. wish i had close up photo's....but you dont need to covere the air dam or drill holes in your bumper to mount a front plate.

judge - I also fear the fugly with the plate up high.

JW - a wise caution re: the air intake, hadn't thought of that.

I am experimenting with auto tape at the moment and depending on how that goes will have the drill at the ready.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Hey Fox - if the plate holder wasn't bolted to the bumper, what kept it attached?

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious..

I had a factory plate frame on the car. I've seen other 968's with the same plate frame. They are mounted to the bumper with heavy duty commercial grade double sided adhesive. Plate itself is screwed into the plate frame. No holes in the bumper. I don't have any good pics as I never took photos of the plate frame itself, but looking through my photobucket account, this is the best I could find to give you an idea of where the plate frame was mounted....right below the air dam for the intake and above the lower air dams.
