Why can't we search on <3 characters?
#1

is there a specific reason we can't include terms with less than three characters when doing a search? I've recently tried searching with terms that included things like "CV" and "HP", and my searches got rejected for violating the <3 character rule. Scratching my head as to the logic of this rule. Thanks.

the search engine gets really clogged up with a setting of less than 3 characters - this is not recommended per the people who wrote the software

sorry

Can we at least limit search flood delay to 10 seconds?

No worries. I'll just stop making stupid first searches and trying to follow up with more reasonable terms quickly thereafter. [Image: biggrin.gif] IP.Board will hopefully catch up with the times regarding indexing - two-letter and even one-letter words don't represent much of a load to a properly-indexed database. But until then, we're all limited to the features and functions available - none of us are about to go off and try to write a forum software on our own! [Image: wink.gif]

With that being said, I'm paying two people to travel across the U.S. this week, and $175/hr. each for about three days to troubleshoot a database that is, most likely, improperly indexed... So much for my opinion.

Ah indexing. I remember my first spanning tree algorithm - in 78! Those were the days <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

yeah - the problem is he search engine traffic - every time somebody hits "view new posts" it uses the search engine - allowing 2 character entries causes a lot more longer searches - if we had unlimited bandwidth and storage space, we could do more, but it would be really expensive - we are already way beyond our allotted storage space, but because we limit the bandwidth usage, they are letting us stay where we are
