Who else loves watches?

Check this out :

Ok, let me see.. hmm, do I buy a Veyron, or even a very nice house in an upscale area , or a watch ? Oh crap, I guess the entire production is already sold out. Darn, I have no choice now but to spend that disposable cash on the Bugatti or a house..

Wow, that's enough to get those who view income equality as the ultimate evil to reach for their torches and pitch forks. Holy moly, that's crazy money for a watch. Or even a house.

A watch at that price is just plain stupid. Interesting... but still stupid!

It seems tennis ( if you're pretty good at it, LOL ) pays off ; Rafael Nadal is wearing this $ 800,000 Richard Mille watch , one of many other ridiculously expensive timepieces in his collection , at this year's French open. But what a bargain, when compared to the $ 2 mil Richard Mille watch noted in my earlier post.

Gotta find out who this Richard Mille dude is ; maybe the Bernie Madoff of watches, fooling idiots into spending that kind of money on a single timepiece.

The cache is the price not the timepiece.

Today I dusted off the Longines which has been sitting in a case for at least ten years, and wore it.   This watch was made in the mid-50s so it's about 60 years old, it has never been cleaned or lubed ( aka serviced ) , it has not been wound during that same ten + years , and thus was not running for over a decade, and yet after winding it in the morning it has run flawlessly, keeping time with essentially quartz accuracy.

So one question : why the hell can't a Porsche ( more specifically our 968s ) also function like this ?!   :glare:  :whine:

and here's a photo of it placed on my desk, right next to my favorite paperweight ..

Be careful, as old as it is it probably needs a new timing belt.

You're lucky, I pulled my Corum USB watch out to wear to a wedding, it had been about 1.5 years since I wore it. The good news is that the battery was still good, the bad news is that the stem pulled completely out when I tried to reset the time...that's gonna hurt!

That also happened to one of my watches and I thought it was going to be a complicated and costly repair but it turned out to be an extremely simple fix and I wasn't even charged for it - it took the shop all of five minutes " lock " it back into place . The watchmaker said sometime they just slip out of place and it's not necessarily indicative of some worn component like gears or seals , or anything being loose in there . Although that made absolutely no sense to me, it seems he was right because I've used that watch and reset it many times since without any further incident . Hopefully the same is the case with yours ..

Thanks Dan...I'll keep my fingers crossed. Maybe I can put a downpayment on a Patek Philippe instead of paying for this repair Wink

MB & F has always been an esoteric brand known for very " different " watches that are meant to be more attention-getters than anything else , but THIS has to be the most bizarre and F-UGLIEST ( IMHO ) watch I have ever seen to date .. and if that wasn't enough, the price is $ 230,000 + tax , lol.

Looks like a drone which could fly you around . That might justify the price if you can use it for your air-commute to work and avoid rush hour street surface traffic.

It would be nice if you could actually read the time on it.

Not all watches are meant to actually see the time on them!

Weird. It's like buying a tv without a screen. I can understand it's like a piece of jewelry, but spending that kind of money and having to take out the manual and a magnifying glass to see what time it is is beyond me.

Maybe I'm too practical when it comes to watches :-)

Maybe it's similar to mobile phones : supposedly no more than 30 % of people use them too make any calls ..
