Warning buzzer in Dash??
#1

Hey folks,

I have a 94 with 154K miles on it that I recently bought and intermittenly it sounds like a buzzer under the passenger side of the dash starts to go off. The car has the check engine light on as well as the air bag light (waiting for Durametric to arrive so I can troubleshoot these issues), but oil pressure and temp are fine. Just wondering if 968s had a warning buzzer or something and the car is trying to tell me something, or if this is just a random noise that I need to find (it is loud when it happens and the sound is the same, but he frequency of the buzz changes frequently).

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I have never heard a sound ( other than tne car's security / theft alarm ) associated with any warning lights in the 968.

I gong relays can make a funny buzzing noise if they are going out; its with the rest of the relays under the hood (it on the drivers side, but sometimes noises can be hard to pinpoint where they are coming from). You might pull that relay and see if the noise is still there.

The seat belt warning & delayed light timer relay resides under the dash in an auxilary fuse panel. If that relay has gone bad, I'm sorry to say it's quite expensive. I think Autoatlanta was charging upwards of $100 for it (IIRC).

Edit: It's under the dash on the driver's side, part number 928 618 102 03 and is $252 and change.

Folks,

I have an update on this (but still have the problem). The noise went away for a while, but came back with a vengeance tonight. When I adjusted the temp knob it went away and then came back. When I hit the recirculation button the noise (sounds like a Geiger counter going nuts on radiation) comes on and off with each push of the button. Has anyone dealt with this before? do I need to replace the temp control unit?

thanks in advance!

I have the same issue in my 92'. I turn the radio up when it decides to click. Also turning the thermostat dial up makes it stop for a while. It does not happen very often in my car though. I rarely run the a/c or heater though. Should be interesting to see if someone has a fix.

I only get such a noise when I disconnect my battery. For a few seconds the car alarm makes a geiger counter noise just like you described.
