Video from Pacific Raceways
#1

This sunday I met up with Erik at Pacific Raceways for one of his races. I brought along my recording gear to get some out of car footage of the race. I got there at around 9:30, when he was still doing qualifying laps (which is why I couldn't find him on the paddock hehe) but eventually managed to track him down and chatted all things 968

Being there really gave me an idea as to how relaxed these races are as almost anyone can get in, walk among the cars, drivers, etc. It's really neat! But I also got a pretty good workout once Eric's race finally started since the track people only give you 5 minutes to cross the track to all the good spectating locations, and seeing how there was more than one, I found myself running back and forth trying to get some good shots and footage. Unfortunately the group Eric was racing in had a pretty short race because of a couple of unrelated track incidents, both pretty serious. A yellow RX7 crashed and burned (literally), and one of the marshals had a heart attack all in the span of about 15 - 20 minutes while the race was stopped. Talk about an action filled day, and not the kind of action you hope to see at a race

Great to finally meet Eric too, really friendly guy! I think everyone should come out and support our local west coast 968 racer

Here is the video, hopefully Eric will be able to mirror this on his own site as my bandwidth is limited This is a compilation of the race day. Sorry about the poor race start footage, I lost site of the 968 in the sea of red cars, and I ended up zooming in instead of out while searching for his car, doh! But I did capture the pass he made on the 964!

Quick edit: I updated the video just slightly because I realized I didn't use any of the footage I took at Turn 8. Maybe 20-30 seconds more footage of Eric's car passing by at high speeds

Next time I do this, I promise I will use my Tripod!

Jim, yes, hopefully we'll get to see the in car shot of that, and I do wish there was more of that, but alas, it was a short session

Thanks for putting that together Renn. I've never had to download a video OF me before. You really got your exercise because that is a lot of ground to cover. The angles you are shooting really show the elevation changes at the track. You can't always pick that up from the in-car.

Unfortunately, it was a very short race as a driver was seriously injured and had to be airlifted out. While that happened the starter collapsed with an apparent heart attack. They are both still in intensive care.

One more lap and I would have gotten the EVO.

Here is the same video hosted on my website:

Cool, thanks for posting it up! The track looks completely different that I imagined it from the incar vid

Yes, I too was surprised by the elevation changes. It's at least 60 or more feet from the straight to the bottom of the hairpins. And the front straight is even more impressive in person
