Vibrating shifter

My D1R short shifter is great; I love the throws, but I've noticed it seems to vibrate more (noisily) then the OEM one. I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly. Is there anything I can do to keep it from humming so loudly and vibrating in my hand? Suggestions?

Do you have the stock shift knob, or a different one? Anything other than the stock, internally dampened, weighted knob tends to buzz like a swarm of angry bees, and there is no cure for it.

Oh, but there is a cure : turn the stereo volume all the way up :-) :-) .



Kidding aside, I did manage to ultimately silence my non-OE shifter knob, but don't ask me how because I no longer remember what exactly worked and what it is that I have in there.. I think velcro covered with a strip of innertube jammed in that chamber. But , the D1R short shift kit should not make any difference in vibration or noise if you're using the OE knob.. when I installed mine I still had the OE knob and it was silent .

It's the OEM knob, on the D1R shifter. Does everyone with a manual seem to have this issue?

nobody has yet had an issue using the OEM knob. this is the first i have heard in about 5 years of making them (about 200 of them out there).

...while you worked on getting the kick panel/fuses back together. I'll have my guy here try and re-do it, see what's up...

ah - make sure the rubber bushings are both in the notches. if those are not there, or unseated, it can buzz. otherwise, it is possible you have a torque tube bearing getting ready to go.

If it's the torque tube - any idea what I can expect in terms of cost to fix/replace?

given that you are supercharged, if you have to get in there, i would install super bearings. it isn't going to be pretty. you're looking at a good 8 hours to R&R and about $1300 for the torque tube job, which has to be shipped to florida to be done.



let's look into this a LOT before coming to that conclusion

Ooh, super bearings! I checked and can't find a DIN or ASTM standard for those. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

lol - yeah - that's what black sea calls their bearings. the things are massive. really holds the drive shaft in place much better. they powdercoat the entire assembly too. very nice work.
