Ventura Show Sept 8-9
#1

Ok, I've heard many evaluations of the Ventura show but it is a large Porsche gathering and we are all Porschefiles. Granted, we like the "red-headed step-child," but I think we're due for a gathering of 968 guys. Here is what I propose:

1. Attend the show Saturday. There is no "concours" per se but actually a "People's Choice" event. Let's sign up for that event and make some noise. It's all in good fun. Who doesn't want to see Flash's car with the hood up?

2. At 4 or 5 when I'm done volunteering, we head up to my pad in Santa Barbara and barbecue. I'm not going to brag but I can make some mean tri tip and some other goodies that I won't mention but you will definitely enjoy.

3. You stay in a hotel Saturday night in Santa Barbara. You book and confirm. I can offer my suggestions and my brother is a travel agent.

4. We have breakfast Sunday morning at a location we vote on Saturday night at my place. Of note, there is my favorite low budget Cajun Kitchen with VERY good omelets, the Biltmore Sunday Brunch and a number of other local favorites.

5. You can spend some time shopping in SB, go back for another day at Ventura or even go whale watching on the Condor Express. There have been pods of fifty -- YES FIFTY -- blue whales in recent days in the channel and it's a pretty amazing sight.

This is a great time to bring the wife and kids and let them enjoy some time out of the home town. Us guys can hang and provide rides as necessary. What do ya think? Any norcal guys interested? I'd offer my couch but it's leather and not all that comfy.

Let's get a good group of guys, Ron, Rustech, Kris, Dave, Howard, etc. Come on up and enjoy the Central Coast!

Here's the web site to check it out:

glad somebody else started this - i had planned to do it yesterday, but got swamped - i usually put this thing together every year - happy to let somebody else spearhead it

we usually set up rendezvous points along the way, and caravan together, arriving together and then going in together - i then arrange with bob campbell to put us all together inside

afterward we usually go to lunch someplace local, and bail from there, because we have to get there so early and are done by then (who can spend more than 4 hours at a car show?), and there was no other reason to hang out - but, tri-tip sounds great, and i think it's a great idea

a couple of years ago we had 17 cars - it has been dwindling - we now have more guys out doing stuff, so maybe we can make this one bigger than ever

believe it or not, i am probably blowing this off this year

i have yet to hear from anyone else about this either

i'm having a hard time seeing myself getting up at o-dark-thirty to drive 100 miles, likely by myself, and then spend the entire day up there, so that i can hang out for dinner (as much as i love tri-tip) - i have yet to spend more than 2 hours at the show and not have seen everything, so i just don't know how i can justify it

on top of that, i have contractors coming on saturday that i would have to reschedule

i sure wish bob campbell would schedule something of interest there (like an autocross or something other than the traditional 356 laden concours)
