Ugly sound
#1

My 968 was a daily driver up until about 7 months ago. Now I drive it once every week or two. I am in Northeast and as the weather is getting colder when I start it up it sounds almost like there isn't any oil in the car. Once running it sounds fine. I have of course checked the oil and it is at the right level. Just seems like it is at bottom of engine and at start up it is an ugly noise. Any thoughts? Is this ok?

Are you talking about "lifter clatter"? These motors are known to do this if left for a period of time without starting. The noise should quit soon after oil has had a chance to pump up the lifters though. That being said...mine never has done this. My 944S has done it after months of sitting.

What weight oil? How many miles on the car?

It might be lifter clatter, although I always felt that noise was heard higher up on engine, never heard it on this vehicle but have on others. Seemed like it comes more from underneath engine then on top.Just changed oil, as I do every season, put on too few miles to wait for 3k. Mobil 1 used.
