Two Questions - Zipper in Cab, Windshield trim
#1

Does anyone else with the cabrio top have a zipper just above the rear window? If so why? Not sure if my top is original or not so this may be something no one else has. See pic below

The windshield glass just sort of ends below the hood line. Is this what it is supposed to look like or is there a trim piece missing? See pics

Windshield is normal...that's just how it is.

Not sure if I have a zipper, but I don't think that looks right. My Miata had a zipper that you could use to drop out the window, which I did alot of the time. Always thought it would be neat to be able to do it on the 968. I'll look when I get back to my office.

yup - windshield is normal - interesting side note - 92s have little blocks that stop the windsheild - after that they don't

i do not have a zipper and mine is original - i loved that feature in my mgb - i plan to implement it with the new top - i'd love to see shots of the outside flap that would lay over the zipper

I asked the guy who's doing my top if there was a zipper on the old or new tops, and he said there is not. I asked him to return the old top to me, so if you want to take a look at it, let me know and I can drop it off to you. I did learn in the process that there are not only a variety of fabrics (German being the best and also what's on the original) as well as many U.S. manufacturers who take that fabric and make tops. I did find differences in how they finish seams and edges, so it's possible that the zipper is just one way a particular manufacturer makes them.

I have a '92, so I'll look at my windshield when I pick up the car tomorrow for the little blocks you mentioned, flash. My car's windshield doesn't have any trim at the bottom, and I wondered the same thing when I got the car.

yes - the original was made by robbins - asc contracted them to provide the tops - it used a german canvas (sonnendeck i believe)

robbins continues to make the top, and is actually usually less expensive than many others

George, it looks like that is only half of the zipper. Is it the whole thing? Is there a pull on the zipper anywhere? Strange.

Looks like the zipper may not be functional as described. Here are more pics. I cannot find a pull tab and in fact the flap that covers the zipper seems to be stitched tight on each end. The pic where I can lift to flap, the flap is actually ripped a little. From the inside there is no access. Must have been an aftermarket top and perhaps an easy way to join the pieces.

My top does not have that flap at all. That is a strange place to have a zipper in the first place. You really have me puzzled with those shots.
