Rear Wiper Delete Bung
#21

[quote name='333pg333' date='Aug 14 2006, 02:36 PM']Err, doesn't it strike you that going to at least 5 different suppliers and searching on the net to arrive thus far at no solution v's buying the Promaxx plug for $30 odd bucks kind of ironic? The fuel you've used and your own time plus whatever the tint shop will charge you may have cost you more than the perfect packaged solution. Not criticising here, but from the sidelines it looks like the one on offer would have been the best option. Hope you succeed.

I would agree with you, except that since the hole in the tint is larger than the diameter of the Promax plug, their plug doesn't solve my problem. No matter which solution I go with, I will have to go to the tint shop and have a donut-shaped piece of tint inserted that fills the gap between the 1" diameter hole in the glass, and the current 1-5/8" diameter hole in the tint. Getting that done will simplify the job considerably, since it will reduce the total diameter of the hole I need to fill to 1", and there are several available plugs, including Promax's (and BumperPlugs'), that should fill this size hole.

I am considering removing the antenna from the roof, does anyone make a plug or cover for the hole? I don't think I've ever listened to the radio in my car in the last 3 years and the antenna isn't looking so good.

Did the promax solution too. Piece of cake and looks great.

Just to wrap up my saga, I went ahead and placed the rubber gasket from the wiper assembly back into the hole in the window. The opening inside this gasket is about 3/4", so it was easy to find a plug at Lowes that fit inside this hole (a spritz of WD40 helped) for a whopping $1.39 for a pack of two. I still have a ring of un-tinted glass surrounding the gasket, so I need to go to a tint shop to take care of this, but I would have had the same issue with the Promax plug. It may not be the most elegant solution, but it was almost free (OK, I did spend a couple bucks in gas, but all my stops were very close to each other).

Was the 968 available without the rear wiper from the factory?

I ask because for my class it would only be removable if it was optionable that way from the factory.

James,

You are going to have to find a list of option-deletes for the car. They came standard with all of the common items (A/C, sunroof, rear wiper, etc.). However, I know that there are some less than obvious factory option-deletes that were available. For example, you could order the car without a sunroof. I've seen one first hand, so they do exist. That said, I have never seen any documentation with a menu of every available option (or option-delete) that you could order a 968 with. If you ever find such a thing, please post it here!

since I have no idea, let me weigh in here.

I'm gonna guess that since the PET shows the parts to fill the empty rear wiper hole, that one could get that from the factory.

hypothesis only!

Problem is there are too many interchangable parts between the 944 line and ours. Compound that with USA vs. ROW availability of options. SCCA is very specific about this rule and Porsche doesn't disclose a lot of information about older model options. The "options" list shows the CAT and air bags as an option, but we all know that wasn't an option at all for USA cars. It was standard equipment that was not removable.

It is sound reasoning however and would make one investigate further...

If I ever find the "Order Guide" for 968s, I will be sure to post it.
