How to get rid of cigarette smell?
#21

Here's some additional information re: dealing with Offensive Odors in Autos from Motor Trend (circa 1999):

Car Care: Offensive Odors - by Rik Paul (Motor Trend, June 1999)

The product I mentioned above "Odor Gun" by Medo (NOT Delonghi...sorry) is reviewed here as are others:

Odor Gun: Medo Industries, Tarrytown, N.Y.: www.medo.com.

Other products:

Atmos-Klear: Twin Star Industries, Minneapolis, Minn.: 800/977-4145; www.atmosklear.com.

Febreze: Proctor & Gamble, Cincinnati,Ohio:800/308-EASY(3279); www.febreze.com.

Odor-X: Turtle Wax, Chicago, Ill.: www.turtlewax.com.

Hope this is helpful... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Ok, the test is over. I have to qualify this once again, and say this was a "smoke-free" car prior to the top being replaced, but it reeked when I got it back. Guess what? The apple trick worked! Smells basically the way it did before it went to the shop. I just finished wiping down the interior in case of excess smoke residue (and then 303 Aerospace for good measure), but it is amazing. Sometimes homemade remedies work. Now if we can only get the rubber seals back I'll be golden (see new thread).

Is the apple trick only used for the removal of the smoke smell, or can it be used to remove many other unpleasant smells? I just need a new smell for my car. I also do not want to hang 500 smelly trees from my rear-view mirrior. The smell seems a bit musty.. and old personish (no offense to anyone). I've tried febreze and similar products. Would changing the cabin filter aid with the smell removal? What about shampooing the carpets?

I hope you bill them for the apples. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Wow! I never dreamed that this simple post would stir up such intellect!!!! A simple little secret persecuted as a myth until proven correct.

Hey, I don't know how it works, but it does. No further analysis needed.
