Top Gear US
#21

I have been watching the UK Top Gear shows on the web, starting right from season 1 on www.streetfire.net

Much better than trying to view it on youtube because "streetfire" has full episodes rather than have the episodes split in many parts.

Ditto on the U.S version - The content may eventually be there, but I think the personalities would be lacking. I do think the British version is a far better show - Despite Jeremy Clarkson's constant bashing of America. After all, were it not for the Country he elects to bash so much, he certainly would not have the show that he has, and would have swapped that British accent for a German one a long time ago.

Jeremy also seeks some reason or another to bash every Porsche being reviewed and is far too enchanted with British cars when there is no reason to be so ( ..with most of them anyway.. ) But, he's still very funny and his personality works well within the group so we easily forgive and forget his obvious bias <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

It would be a better show if they did there own thing. The younger guy is a good driver so its fun to watch him throw expensive porsches lambos and such around the track as he did in "supercars unleashed" was that the name of that show on Speed? How fast we forget...

I struggled through 1/3 of an episode of USTG.. The biggest problem with that show is that It comes across as a cheap rip off of the original. Everything about the 3 host is taken form the orig 3 that we all know well. So when they copy their personalities it's annoying. The chemistry between the 3 isn't there and all the jokes seem forced. Even the camera angles and sound tracks scream rip off. None of it works.

That show is in need of a good director.

forced jokes are never a good thing - it really shows a lack of wit, intelligence and talent

side rant: i am so sick of newscasters trying to be funny - i wish they would just read the news - if they want to be comedians, they need to get up on a stage and do standup

another side rant: we should all get together and tell the awards shows to stop scripting the presenter's lines - the monologues are all on tele-prompters (i've done a lot of these shows) and they look stupid when they read them - very few of the people can actually pull it off - i understand about reading to time and all that, but it really looks dumb

those are the same kinds of things that can ruin a show like this - they need to have people who can think on their feet, and are inherently funny or clever

Jeremy Clarkson was suspended for what BBC claims are " politically incorrect " remarks which could be construed as racist and the show is on hold until a final decision is made. WTF ?! Time to boycott BBC and I hope all their sponsors do that as well, until the producers come to their senses. If you're looking for racists, look no further than those fraternity assholes chanting repulsive songs on the University of Oklahoma bus, and not Jeremy Clarkson's humorous remarks which everyone with a bit of sanity left should realize are far from that.. This society has gone to hell in a hand basket with its PC nonsense ..

The show would not have any chemistry if Clarkson is canned. He may be an A-hole but he is a funny one.

350,000 signatures on the petition to reinstate him, so far..the number is a little disappointing but it's only been a couple of days. They're saying now that he actually tried to smack of the producers and that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back . ( hmm , did not know the show's producers were middle-eastern ..) ok, ok, calm down I'm just kidding , in spirit with Jeremy's alleged non-PC banter .

I agree with the rest here, Clarkson is absolutely essential to the show, and irreplaceable ! They can get rid of James May and replace him with a trained monkey - doubtful anyone would miss him , but JC and Hammond the perfect sidekick simply make that show what it is : one of the best TV series ever. With due credit to the producers, ( in spite of their attitude ), the production value is superb .

I have always wondered how Clarkson could get away with things he says in the PC environment we now live in. I always enjoy his bluntness, and if people do not like what he is saying, turn it off! No one is forcing anyone to view it!

Here is an idea for a great NEW show! Put Jeremy Clarkson together with Anthony Bourdain and have them go to different countries around the world, drive local cars to "cool" restaurants. CARS & FOOD - what's not to like!!!

Throw in a comic, say Jerry S, and you've got a winner.

" - what's the deal with all the Belgians dipping their fries in mayonnaise while driving in these classic 968 Porsches ?! ".

Philippe, where are you , lol ?! Now you can eat greasy fries in company provided BMWs and spare the 968 from any stains :-) :-)

Lol, great idea actually. No food allowed -not even our national pride- in the Porsche, but in a lesser automobile I have no problems with it :-)

People around here are getting citations for eating while driving ..it still makes news because it's rare and many feel it's lame for police to give you a ticket for that, but I completely agree with the fact that it is " distracted driving " and while perhaps less dangerous than being on the phone while at the wheel, it's still not a safe thing to do.

Back to Top Gear - the petition to reinstate JC is now over 1,000,000 and one of the sponsors announced they would not continue their contract. What I didn't know is that Top Gear is THE most watched TV series ( series, not special events like the World Cup, or Super Bowl , or Olympics , etc ) on the planet ...and by a large margin : 350 million viewers, in about 85% of the countries. . wow, who'd think that it has such a following ?

RE the food while driving, does the ticketing is CA mean that Flash isn't going to finish his machined aluminum billet combo cup holder and food tray for D1R? I had my deposit ready to go.

I would think that with the top down the crumbs would just blow out while the leaves are blowing in :-)
