Personal Experience with Goodyear F1 GSD3
#1

This seems like a good idea to me since I am still searching for that "Perfect, all-around tire" for street and track use. I bought my Goodyear F1 GSD3 tires at the beginning of last Autocross Season (March 2007) with the intent of using them on the street and at the local PCA Region Driving Events (Autocross each month and a few DE Events at the local Sandia Motorspeedway Park. Mounted on Cup II wheels in the optional 17 inch sizes I used 225/50 in front and 255/40 in the rear. The tires were not competitive with the "R Type" DOT street legal tires with treadwear of 140 and less. The Goodyear F1 treadwear is 280, so that is what I expected. Street performance was outstanding, on a trip back to the Atlanta, Georgia area I drove in lots of rain and these tires are great for wet traction. The front tires wore out first after nine months of use and 9 autocrosses. The rears are still holding up but have become very noisy driving on the street. My conclusion is that I would not buy them again, subjectively remembering that the Michelin Pilot Sport was a better performing and lasting tire (but I do not have any actual direct comparison results for them). Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I had Pilot Sports and burn through them rather quickly. I've since installed the GY F1's and have been happy with them. They're not too old so I can't comment on the wear - however the handling is slightly better than the Sports.

I've had my Yokohama AVID W4S tires on for a few months now. Have not raced them or had them on hot dry pavement yet. For all round driving they make my 968 feel in complete control, and I drive hard. I have 17" wheels 225 front 255 rears. They are W speed rated, quiet, smooth, and give excellent control. They seem to be wearing really well as I drive a lot. 50 - 55 thousand kilometers a year, mostly highway.

These replaced my Yoko ES100s, as I needed an all season tire now that I live in the hills, and up north it snows a lot!

let's try to keep this thread focused on reviews of the goodyear F1GSD3, and not let it wander into every other tire, but feel free to start a thread reviewing your tire

I have used both the Goodyear GSD3 and Toyo T1S, now superseded by T1R, on the same car, but it was not my 968. I highly preferred the Toyo T1S over the GSD3. The car is a 1994 BMW E34 M5 Touring, obviously a much bigger and heavier vehicle.

The Toyo's wore fast, but evenly, had great traction and control, and performed well in the wet. I LOVED these tires. The Goodyears are doing OK, but I do not feel they perform as well. They are wearing differently, and I am getting vibration from them, now that they are well worn, even with a recent balance. Wet performance on the GSD3 seems sufficient. The Toyo's seemed to mitigate tram-lining better, though not a big problem overall with either.

I am wondering how the Goodyears compare to the Toyos in the noise department when new, and as they wear.

I have the Goodyear F1's. I like em.. They are a little squirmy when cold but once warm they have a nice smooth ride (which is what I like) and the handling is great.

I just noticed this thread. I've had the Goodyear's for about two year and I've put about 20k miles on them (wow, hadn't realized how much my mileage had dropped since purchasing a "winter" car!) including 6 track days (DE events). I would undoubtedly purchase them again. Dry traction is excellent, wet traction is outstanding, and based on the remaining tread, I expect to get something like 40k miles from them.

I don't have the Goodyear F1 GS D3's on my car but we do have them on my wife's 04 Audi A6 2.7T quattro S-line in size 235x40 ZR18 mounted on OZ Hydra 5-spoke wheels, same size all the way around. The difference between the OEM "square-ellies" and these is un-flaming-believeable !!! There is no comparison to be quite honest. The GY's are super smooth, quiet, fantastic in the rain, and just plain all around grippy except when really cold (40's F).

They perform extremely well at top speed (electronically limited to 236kph) on the autobahn for extended periods of time. Even at very high speeds, they are very quiet. They are very secure and very confident feeling, not squirmy at all. The car really holds the road well with them. They are a terrific confidence builder.

I just can't say enough great things about these tires. We're super happy with them. We rotate them every 5-7000 miles which I think really makes them wear so well. I would definetely buy these tires again. I can't imagine anyone being dissatisfied with them.

I hope our experience will be helpful to others interested in purchasing these fantastic tires!

On my daily driver 968, I have a set of 4 x Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's, in stock 16" wheel size (205 front / 225rear). I have just under 19k on the set as of today. The front tires are holding up well, but I need to replace the rears immediately - right/rear is half bald, and I'm pondering getting a set of Blizzak snow tires at the moment, and get a set of 17" wheels before spring.

I love the Goodyears. They were very quiet when new, and I really didn't notice significant noise from them until they had 15k on them, and this is from the rear tires only. Very nice tires, particularly at speeds suggested by the right half of a 968's speedometer. The tires are excellent in the wet.

Except for my consideration of winter tires, I would definitely continue to stock my 968 with these GS-D3's.
