I have used both the Goodyear GSD3 and Toyo T1S, now superseded by T1R, on the same car, but it was not my 968. I highly preferred the Toyo T1S over the GSD3. The car is a 1994 BMW E34 M5 Touring, obviously a much bigger and heavier vehicle.
The Toyo's wore fast, but evenly, had great traction and control, and performed well in the wet. I LOVED these tires. The Goodyears are doing OK, but I do not feel they perform as well. They are wearing differently, and I am getting vibration from them, now that they are well worn, even with a recent balance. Wet performance on the GSD3 seems sufficient. The Toyo's seemed to mitigate tram-lining better, though not a big problem overall with either.

I am wondering how the Goodyears compare to the Toyos in the noise department when new, and as they wear.

I don't have the Goodyear F1 GS D3's on my car but we do have them on my wife's 04 Audi A6 2.7T quattro S-line in size 235x40 ZR18 mounted on OZ Hydra 5-spoke wheels, same size all the way around. The difference between the OEM "square-ellies" and these is un-flaming-believeable !!! There is no comparison to be quite honest. The GY's are super smooth, quiet, fantastic in the rain, and just plain all around grippy except when really cold (40's F).
They perform extremely well at top speed (electronically limited to 236kph) on the autobahn for extended periods of time. Even at very high speeds, they are very quiet. They are very secure and very confident feeling, not squirmy at all. The car really holds the road well with them. They are a terrific confidence builder.
I just can't say enough great things about these tires. We're super happy with them. We rotate them every 5-7000 miles which I think really makes them wear so well. I would definetely buy these tires again. I can't imagine anyone being dissatisfied with them.
I hope our experience will be helpful to others interested in purchasing these fantastic tires!
