Help! Tiptronic does not “TIP” anymore!
#1

The Tiptronic in my 968 Cab does not “Tip” anymore. The car drives in PRND321 as normal (tip lever in the left side) but when I move it over to the right slot, it no longer shifts.

Is this an electronic or mechanical issue? Thought I should ask before I start tearing the console apart. Fuses are fine but is there a relay in the fuse box?

The shift linkage does feel “loose” in the tip slot – especially moving forward. I can’t seem to “feel” any resistance.

Thanks in advance for your help! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

FIXED it!!!

Relay swap did nothing, so I opened up the centre console and found that a plastic clip for the "upshift" guide pin had fatiqued with age.... hmmm probably a $50 part so I looked around the shop, found a "L" bracket and made something better than OEM and it works! 2 hrs. start to finish including fabricating a pin to fit the long return spring.

Glad it was that simple. Now how do we get those 3 wires to the steering wheel so we can shift up and down without taking our hands off of the wheel"

Funny you should mention that.... I've often thought of the same thing. Paddle shifters anyone??

Is this a common occurrence? I've never seen this issue in any of the threads. It is so good having "968 ENGINEERS" on our board who can identify, engineer and SOLVE a problem in two hours or less!!!

Thanks to all of you guys!

Not an engineer, but hate to see $0.10 plastic end up as a $50 NLA part!! All the while the car sits and waits for repairs. I've posted a follow up on the repair procedure and it is simple.

What is surprising to me is that the TIP console looks like typical german engineering except for those silly plastic guides - they are downright flimsy compared to the rest of that assembly and it's a wonder it did not break earlier!

Strangely however, the front giude relies on a plastic "pin" to locate the return spring whereas the rear guide (identical in size and function) has a screw and locknut to achieve the same function as the front! Trust Porsche to have 2 different PN's for the same thing. Clearance is not an issue thankfully.

here's the link to the thread on repairs http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=2521
