Wow, sure sounds easy. I have a good camera and I will be buying the full kit soooo, I'll give the write up a go.

I'll need the grammar buffs to be on standby and ready to correct mistakes.

Rhude, I got the whole kit too. You get two sets of instructions: the 1st is from the original design, done on a 944 Turbo for which you do need to pull the manifold; the 2nd is more up to date. I removed the alt, made things easier, but don't know if it was really necessary. My advise: get the whole kit, do the batt.-to-gnd and the alt-to-starter and starter-to-batt. first. The others can wait. Read both sets of instructions at least three times. If you use ramps, get the car up before pulling cables. Get some "fusion" tape (which bonds to itself), this stuff is great for wrapping the fuse connections at the starter and wrapping the alt and starter connections (instead of fighting with those darn rubber boots).

Thanks for the tip. Were you having issues before you swapped the cables?

Yes, but not the same as yours. I was swapping out the alternator. In the process, I watched and felt the cable's insulation crumble in my hands. About 8 inches of bare copper cable was revealed, just waiting to short to something. Another example of why you want to disconnect the battery when messing with any unfused wiring.

yup - VERY common problem, and has even resulted in at least one car starting all by itself

Advance Auto tested my battery and gave it a charge. That was all that was needed. The guy looked at my history and recommended a trickle charger during these winter months. They had one there for only $25. Think I'll pick one up.

Still looking to do the higher connection cables though.

one more odd thing. My instrument cluster is dark! The high beam, fog lights, seat belt warning all still work. But the illumination however doesn't. So at nighttime i cat read how fast im going, fuel gauge etc.. I checked the fuse box under the hood and the 15amp for instrument panel was good. Any thoughts?

have you been messing around behind the cluster lately? the multipin connectors are well known for not seating properly and causing stuff like this

not lately. I purchased and installed a new instrument cluster housing (my window was cloudy) in the summer. The lights stopped working about a month ago. But it doesn't hurt to recheck.

Could be the cluster just took a hit and wiped out the bulbs. I have seen that before on a Jetta console, everything was fine but all the bulbs were black.

OK, might as well check that as well since the unit will be off. That would be a lot of blown bulbs

Some would say I am a very simple person, well, many actually but the only reason I log on every day is to see if Rhudeboy had changed his avatar, contributing to the forum is second place It's too soon, I miss Freddie!

This is the reason you should keep your battery on a battery tender. then when you have not driven it for awhile you at least will have a fully charged battery. I had a short in my electrical system, and found my battery on a voltage meter to be only 2 volts strong. When I turned the key no sounds clicks anything. I put it on the trickle 2 amp change. it took about 10 hours to fully charge the battery up completely, I then checked the battery the next day and it was down by 6 volts. That was how I discovered and located the short. I now keep my battery on a battery tender or maintenance charger. It automatically goes on and off when charge is low or high.
