The first article was about a Swedish citizen caught speeding in Finland, the second article is also about a Swedish citizen caught speeding in Switzerland. No confusion re countries, just an interesting coincidence that both of these guys were Swedes with a tendency to speed in other countries . Hey, maybe it was the same guy, just driving around Europe thinking that as long as he's not in his own country, speed laws do not apply .

The people’s republic of Berkeley is voting this week to eliminate the use of police from all traffic related stops , and replace them with ( unarmed ) public workers .    Woo-hoo, Berkeley is only about half an hour from where I live, so there’s my chance to see how fast the cars can still go !    :blink:

A few years back the speed was dropped on A-roads from 90KpH to 80KpH. Many departments were slow to change the signs and some were fined for traveling above 80KpH because the radar limits had been changed.  Obviously there were challenges in court, but the ruling was "you are aware of the change nation-wide and so you know the 90KpH is incorrect" ... so cough up!

 

So now SOME departments are contemplating reverting to 90KpH and this link shows a map of the chaos to come ...

But on a funnier note that I didn't have time to relate earlier .....


In the early days of " maybe 90K maybe 80K" I too was done by a radar trap and my wife duly received the summons as it was her car I was driving. The system online offers 50% reduction for payment within 14 days, but if you wish to challenge or implicate another driver you must pay the full whack up front and then be reimbursed/ points deducted as appropriate..... well or so my misguided French indicated.

So I payed the full 60 and sent in my license details (my wife's are linked to her car) expecting to be notified of my misdemeanor etcetc.

Well, I obviously got it wrong. The French took the full whack, even though I had coughed up early, and then deducted a point from my wife's license!

So, a win win situation..... The French got twice as much money as they should have done, and I didn't lose any points on my license, way to go!!

It's not been 30 years, but probably 20yrs since my last ticket ... and I too don't speed in town, but the countryside is a different matter...

Dan the term is (with a shrug) ... " les functionaires" .... "The bureaucracy" ...... I have to now admit that bizarrely I have been voted onto Council it was never my intention, but two weeks prior to elections the mayor asked me to join his team, and a huge surprise to me was that the town voted me in.. So although I'm "retired " I'm suddenly a "functionaire".


Now, how do I go about lifting those speed limits????

But in a provincial community ( I prefer that term to rural ) you may actually make a difference , as opposed to being caught up in some large city’s massive bureaucracy , but yes, lifting speeding restrictions should be first on the agenda  :clap:  B)

Yep, that's why I agreed to join. In a small setting one can actually (hopefully) make a difference. I suspect I'll be pretty tired when it's all over, 6 years, but hopefully Tuchan will have become a better place to live, fingers crossed!
