The New 911
#1

The August issue of Panorama has an article about the 2009 911 with its completely new engine. The engine is described (more than once) as being an "...all-new double-overhead-cam, 32-valve flat-six..." Huh? I can't seem to divide 32 valves into 6 cylinders.

Wouldn't expect a mag like Panorama to print such nonsense. All other reports on the engine that I've seen say 24

"3.8 liters horizontal 6 rear engine with 99.0 mm bore, 82.8 mm stroke, 11.8 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder"

4 valves X 6 cylinders = 24 valves

I heard a rumour that a future 911 would have a flat-8 engine. 32 valves into 8 cylinders works out fine.

But AFAIK, the latest 911 engine is still a flat-6.
