Yup, no argument there . She's phenomenal .

What's always in contention is not so much the contemporaries comparisons ( although there certainly is some of that ..) but comparing different generations in sports for the best OF ALL TIME title . A bit absurd if you ask me, not just in this sport, but any sport really, IMO .

I still argue that someone like Gerorge Best , who during the previous night of any given match drank a fifth of whisley chased by five or six pints of beer, " shagged " at least two if not three young ladies , smoked half a pack of cigarettes , had another pint on his way to the locker room and then still managed to consistently tear up the field and embarrass every defender in the opposite team making it seem effortless is tough to match for the best ever, LOL..

The article was interesting, well thought out, but... Messi will have to win a World Cup to go into the history books as "the best ever soccer player". Pele is still the "Rei do futebol".

With regards to George Best, Brazil had Garrincha. He had the same "lifestyle" as Best and is also considered by many Brazilians to have been a far superior player than Pele. He would leave the team training grounds to go and play "pick-up" soccer with his hometown buddies and then return an hour before a big game and totally tear the opposition apart. He also won the '62 World Cup with Pele injured. Brazil national squad NEVER lost a game when Pele played together with Garrincha! There is a great book and also a documentary film on his life.

Messi could win a World Cup....if he became a German citizen and joined Germany's team .  Of course as an Argentinian, finding some German lineage in his blood should not be too difficult   Blush  Tongue ..

.." TODAY " ?!..     on a continuing amusement note ; seeing the image of Lionel next to Carli my first thought was : " she can probably kick his ass in a street fight in all of 30 seconds.."   and CR who was there also probably made a pass at her .. :glare:

And just when I was about to say, that Messi is one of the rare superstars who deserves nothing but respect by virtue of never taking a dive, never whining when he gets fouled , never showboating after scoring, never trash talking before , during. or after the match ,...he pulls off a douchebag move like this : http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/soccer-fc-...59884.html

Ugh, just lost much of that respect I had for him ..

The move was within the rules, so nothing "low" about it! He just wanted to pay tribute to the great Cruyff who did it first many years ago.

Yes, it is within the rules but I still find it distasteful . As was Cruyff's ..another player I had great admiration for . I suppose it's a matter of opinion , and as a former GK I may be a little biased, LOL, .

So Leicester 's EPL title win today is not just the biggest Cinderella story in football ( aka soccer ) history, but by many accounts the biggest story in the history of any sport. Comparisons were drawn to the U.S. Olympic Hockey team beating the USSR team, and then capturing the gold medal, but it's far, far beyond that miracle . The chances aren't even remotely comparable. For those who do not follow soccer too closely Leicester was at 5,000:1 betting odds at the beginning of the season ...

Sheesh, I imagine tomorrow's news on bookies suicide statistics could be quite interesting .

And for those who watched the Chelsea-Tottenham match - what a spectacular, brilliant " gift " handed to Leicester by Hazard in the 83rd minute .

A colleague at work , who happens to be a die-hard baseball fan , overheard my taking to another co-worker in the hallway about today's result and said : " who's Lester ? and is it that big of a deal , that they won the league title ? ". So I informed him it would be the equivalent of a decent minor league team playing in the majors for the first time, make it to post-season and ultimately sweeping the WS for the championship.

Truly a story that will feature in sports history.

A local paper was trying to motivate the Vancouver Whitecaps to draw a lesson from the Leicester City feat.

Wonder where you got your source from? Watching England x Iceland and the English players seem to all be there! Not helping though... Iceland just tied the game and only 7 minutes have been played!

Watched the entire England x Iceland game.

I think I was as tired as the Icelandic players at the end, twisting and turning on my bar stool, trying to help them keep the ball away from the net! Beer

It worked... and they move on to try and surprise the hosts France!

Belgium have a GOOD team and should make it to the final against... Germany! On route they will piss Ronaldo off, but that's ok!  :angry2:

(Although... a Wales x Iceland would be a VERY interesting final...   Icon_lol1 )

Yes, of course it was a BREXIT joke ... Sheesh ! And now " KARMA " has kicked England in the ass.

Belgium is , IMHO , the best collection of individual players in the tournament ..they just have not managed to gel as a teame until the last match. Italy is on fire and will be very tough to beat , but not impossible . Certainly a veeeeery interesting tournament , and considering six out of the eight new added nations ( every soccer snob critic called a mistake ) advancing to the second round points to tne depth of talent out there ..

It would be funny to see an Iceland-Wales final ..not sure what the odds are on that and it's does seem really far fetched but given that Greece won the Euro starting at 300-1 odds that year , pretty much anything is plausible . And since this is the year for legendary surprises ( Leicester City ) maybe there's something in the air ..

You also need to keep a close eye on the Dutch. They haven't lost a single match since the beginning of the tournament :-))

At least we don't have to keep an eye on the American team any longer.
