The Beautiful Game
#81

They're borderline masochists..or just stubborn and refuse to learn from the experience of owning just one.

But what about the guys who own nine 968s ?!! ( one of our Dutch forum members )

And what does this have to do with the tread topic, anyway ? Oh, yeah, I forgot ; the common denominator : fanaticism .

And speaking of football lunatics ..see photo below ; I emptied my wallet ( not that it had much in it anyway, lol ) so the full interior design is displayed in all its glory :-). Just no smartass comments please about the era of those footballs and my sport career coinciding ...lol.

World Champion Golden State Warriors!

In six, as I predicted.

And it was indeed a "beautiful game"

Just as is the case with baseball's so-called " World Series" , the NBA finals is not a " world " championship by any stretch of the imagination. Secondly, although the win is a deserving one , if the Cavaliers had Irving and Love playing alongside LeBron most b-ball experts ( I'm not among them, lol ) indicated it would have been a complete blow out in straight four and without a single game being even a close contest. Not that it's an excuse, injuries are part of the game and if the team does not have enough depth on the bench, it's their problem, not the winners problem . One of the games was won entirely by the warriors bench vs the Cleveland's bench ( or lack thereof ) . I was rooting for Cleveland because California residents have practically just about everything else going for them, the poor folks in Cleveland were hanging on this single hope to grab a piece of elusive glory .. I always root for the underdog in every sport and I think Cleveland without those two additional superstars were definitely underdogs .

And no flaming accepted from Cleveland forum members, I lived there for nearly ten years ; enjoyed the time I spent in Ohio in many respects , but let's get serious - very few things to give one motivation to stay there ..other than the knowledge that it's still a better place than Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia , St. Louis , Buffalo, New Orleans , Tampa and a couple of other cities I may have missed LOL.

As for the real beautiful game , who is watching the women's World Cup ? I've seen a few matches , and think the level of play has improved by leaps and bounds over just a few years ago when watching women play soccer was like watching a sub standard pre-high school boys team play . Sorry, that may come across as a sexist comment , but I don't think I'd get too many dissenting opinions on that ..

Hope Solo - tne US women's national team goal keeper. The beautiful game imagery defined lol. BTW, she just happens to be an extraordinary goalkeeper, ranked no 1 in the world . Not a bad combo..

Notice how they no longer look or dress like men? Tight clothes on women always work with those ponytails (or insert own word) bouncing as they run

That was quite the turnout yesterday in Vancouver for a "girls " game! USA fans did themselves proud on their support.

Watched Brazil x Columbia in the Copa America today... not a good result for Brazil... the problems from last year seem to continue...

Man U states they have 671 Million fans world wide , and they claim that is a documented / supportable statistic within a 1% margin of error. Just how exactly does one calculate and is able to empirically support that kind of a number ? Real Madrid and Barcelona both boast a fan base in excess of 450 Million and 500 Million, respectively. I remember Brazil at one time claiming that they have more than 2 Billion die-hard fans and another 1 billion followers ( whatever that means ..). Oddly, I find the Brazil claim not out of the realm of possibility but how does any team gauge anything like that on a world wide basis ? Jersey sales X a scientifically proven multiplier ?

Wow, what an extraordinary match ( and also one of the most physical ones I've seen in women's soccer ) between US and Germany , and then today what an unbelievable heartbreak finish for England ..in the 92nd minute ! Lucky she's not a Colombian player .....

Since in soccer there are no time outs, or multiple player switches, or just flat out looooong breaks ( unlike in many other sports ) in addition to the attempt of getting the ref's sympathy or a foul call in your favor, it's an opportunity for a player to lay down and take a 30 second breather ..

And what a great final in the women's World Cup ! Maybe the NFL is going to recruit Carli Lloyd this season as the highest paid field goal kicker in the league, lol - a 54 yard perfectly paced and accurately placed goal ! Wow, a stunning shot for a woman , not to mention she scored two other goals during the match... but the audacity of that particular shot was a classic for the ages.. IMO

How would the NFL dress her as a field goal kicker? In a bikini? Think about ratings and ad revenue!

A little late ( ok, very late for this one ) but probably still applicable even now :

Five of the top FIFA officials are traveling in the same car . Who's driving ?

The police .

So now tnis article crowns Messi as the best of all time . Hmm, perhaps ..although the debate about " the best ever " will surely continue for as long as the sport exists ..they do make a few good points though ..
