Thar she blows!

ok - i put the torque chart up there, but you can read a lot more about it in the thread here in the heavy breathing section. it's all about stage 3.

read the recommendations page of the install instructions of the kit first. it will tell you if you can run the kit at all or not.

It's amazing how the D1R supercharger has transfomed this car into something that makes it fairly competitive with modern cars in the same class (think Nissan 370Z). If it had come stock on the cars when they were new, and if (this is the really big "if") Porsche had held the line on the price, I'm sure the car could have been vastly more successful in the marketplace.

I would encourage anyone who has one of these kits, along with some of the attendant suspension upgrades Flash mentions, to call one of the car magazines (Grassroots Motorsports seems like a good candidate) to see if they'd be interested in running a road test. It would be fun to see the impressions of a neutral party, and give our cars some good publicity.

bva - I have plenty of left over zip ties if you need some

suspension etc. - I plan to take a spin this weekend on the San Diego fun run loop. First time I did the run in the 94 (which has LSD and was much tighter than the preceeding 93) I thought I was in trouble a couple of times, but the car amazed me and kept me on the pavement. With more power I imagine that several of these turns will easily exceed the car's abilities. I don't plan on exceeding the suspension's limits, rather I want to see just how far off the boil I need to keep the engine to stay within the limits. Should be an interesting drive.

And Roland - of course we have a doughnut for you. Speaking of which, I was too lazy to deal with the front brakes that needed replacement so I let BF do it - what a bunch of crap. The pads are worse than stock and the rotors look like something off a Civic. So, I'll be changing those out soon - there's a whole box of doughnuts for local guys who can help

I now have 250 miles on my Stage 3 version. The more I drive it the more I like it. This is one impressive aftermarket development.

Completed the SD fun run this AM.

Results:

Easily took 15 minutes off the run...

Impressions:

- In a spot where we typically can pass 2 slowish cars with all guns blazing after a quick double down shift, we blew by 2 fast-movers with a single downshift to 5th like they were standing still - awesome acceleration

- Moderate speed twisties that were 4th, brake, 3rd in, blip-shift 2nd, hole-shot out and drop to 3rd: now leave in 4th and simply power around the corners. Revs sound too low but the juice is there to power away.

- Technical corners that were 2nd in - slow to 20 or 25 mph and stay calm did not change - except that the approach was just too fast in, which required heating up the brakes a bit.

Hard to gauge how much I held back as I was simply having too much fun for the left brain to be completely functional, but at certain spots I held back quite a bit, in others I had more juice to jump through the spots quickly. In the highly technical areas I guess I held back something like 15% to 20% from where I was before and it still seemed very quick.

Oh - one more thing. The upshifts are just awesome. They have a rifle bolt action about them now. I can hear the slight blow off between each one, and the car just hooks up so quickly post-shift. We did put Bob's short-shift kit in on the same day as the SC so that likely has a lot to do with it, but damn it's quick. Even my dedicated right-seater noticed the change.

Was a great day. Thanks again flash for your native curiosity, competitive spirit, talent and skill, and mostly your dogged determination for figuring this thing out.

When I bought this car it was a well sorted GT. With a few carefully selected mods from D1Racing I'd venture to say that it is now a legit sports car.

ok, so I've decided to join the dark side, and getting the SC. after 10 years of driving the car a rather unique way at extremely high rpms all the time, as i'm getting older and lazier I thought I'd drive it now at a more "relaxed", lower rpm level and have the boost there without the need to dowshift or keep it above 4k constantly.

Go to stage 3 if one is still available. It will be even less work for an aging superstar. I be careful if you think your going to drive easier. My limited experience with this is that it becomes somewhat infectious and you become slightly more aggressive now that you have the power.

Yup, will go with whatever satge flash has available and/or deems makes most sense for my car. As for driving habits you could be right, only time will tell...

going for stage 13 for dan. this will be developed specifically to suit his choices in shoes and watches, and will be particularly focused on making his feet feel faster than his watch says they are

So I thought the SC's were NLA. How many are left (not in the market, as much as I would love to have one - it just doesn't meet my particular application), out of curiosity? Of course, we all know Dan is special...

lol - i've posted at least 5 times, in multiple threads, that i have 5 (now 4) kits left. they are "a la carte" kits, which means you can buy the hardware kit, and then a 5lb head unit, and then stage 1, 2 or 3 tuning (3 also requires 2), or even an unmodified head unit should you choose to do your own tuning, but you can't buy my tuning if you do that.

Oops, sorry. I haven't been following the supercharger threads all that closely, so I'm afraid my knowledge is gleaned from the snippets I've read. I guess I interpreted your statement that you won't be making any more as meaning they're about done. Hmmm... with four still left, maybe there will still be one if I ever run across a 968 I could use as a street car - I was halfway tempted to make an offer on Kim's car.

Dan is oh so very special. If your unsure just ask him. It's worth buying one just to have it. Consider it an investment that will appreciate! I mulled it over for over 6 months. Now if feel silly for taking that long. No I don't work on commission.

'fraid the 968 budget is crushed thanks to the track car project. Ongoing expenses (tires, track time, etc.) will ensure a permanent state of poverty...

Sheesh, stop referring to me as "special" , I feel as if I should join the alternative Olympics or something. But yeah, I am very stubborn and my opinions ( which are ALWAYS right ) cannot be easily influenced. But you are correct sir, it's worth buying one just to have it - if I'm not happy with the result I'll just take it out and mothball it. Although I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

My comment about special wasn't meant to be pc incorrect for those who follow and keep score. It just recognized the specialness you feel about yourself! We should all be like you plus right all the time! Lol you won't mothball it. It snowed on Sunday so I couldn't take it out. It's like a serious jones with no detox med!
