Suggestions on a race decal package
#21

So I had some luck with the fellow in London that does the Martini decals. He improved the side stripes and will take the Martini logos and change them to say my team name, BIGSPEED. Very much like how this is coming together.

I'll be sure to post some pics when the car is done.

Ben, I just had my car painted last month by a local Ford dealership body shop. They made me a great deal, the economy sucks in FL. By the time I had bought new strips emblems & clips we were well over $3000. I still think this was a bargin & she looks pretty good.

That said, some of these companys that "wrap" vehicles cost way less than that. These wraps cover almost every inch of the paint & you could have any color or pattern imaginable. You could have a paintless dent removal expert spend a day getting out the big ones & you could still have original paint.

For what it is worth, I love the idea of the historic design. Not for advertising but commemorating hisory.

Benspeeder, I was about to ask where are the mockups :-)

Do like the idea of sweeping it up over the rear wheel, what if it widens up at the to cover complete width?

You guys will cry foul but this puppy is getting a $300 Maaco paint job and bondo special. I will beat the thing into submission by the end of next season and be glad I didn't spend more than $1000 for the whole shebang!

Ask Pete how it looks now....I think Max said, "warhorse". That was kind

no foul at all - cheap paint is the only way to go on a race car - in fact, i did that same thing, but i had a local shop do it, and i had them advertise on the car - got the paint for free

So is your car black as in the avatar and your painting it white?

The martini stripes seem to look better on white cars for some reason.

Nope - mine is going to stay black - way easier maintenance with all the little rubber marks you get from racing. It's going to look pretty similar to how it looks now but I'm going to keep it clean with very few decals other than the striping, numbers, class and required safety decals.

Decal kit with a bunch of extras will be about $450.

I did look into doing a wrap on the car and it was $2500 for a full wrap - too much for club stuff.

It's a totally gutted interior, stripped of all the glue and painted black. Glad I have a cool shirt 'cause this thing is hot in the summer.

lol - yeah - that's why i would never have a black race car - i'd definitely have it painted, even if it was a maaco job

back to the stripes - try losing the red, and going with a gradient of light blues, starting with the lightest at the top and darker at the bottom

Another idea is to carry the red forward of the front wheels and make the splitter red.

clearly you can decorate your car any danged way you want, and i'm not suggesting otherwise, but i'm still stumped here

to be clear, while martini did have ties to porsche in the 70s, they were not exclusive there - they were a company that had a race team, including porsches, but have sponsored cars from a number of different marques

since almost all of the martini cars were silver or white though (there were a couple of green ones), i don't get doing their stripes and stuff on a black car, especially if they are not a sponsor of this car

why not seek out an example of such a sponsoring company that had black cars, and follow their design lead?

i presume that it is a forgone conclusion that an LLC has been set up, the car is owned by the company, and you will have that company's logo on the car - doesn't it have its own colors?

i just don't think red looks good against black

....a little Martini livery and a few decals always works for me.....its not about logic, sponsors, etc etc....for me it is about living the dream and driving my car with the exact look I want.....

Pmason - you and I think alike - my Kodiak race wheels have a black lip that makes the tires look huge. I plan on powder coating the lips red and then having red accents on the spoiler, maybe mirrors and rear spoiler - not sure yet. But definetly the wheels and the spoiler.

Erik - you got the exact look I'm going for with the Martini livery on the black Cayman - only the decals will say BIGSPEED

i get wanting a certain look - go for it if you like it

i still haven't figure out what track car i want, let alone the paint scheme, so i have no room to talk - lol - at least my sponsors will finally get to display their names on a car though, and they have been complaining about that the whole time
