As measured on Flash's car, his CS wheel is 1.25" smaller in diameter than the stock wheel on my car. That extra 5/8" of knee room would be most welcome if you're over 6' tall, as I am. I'll be getting a CS wheel once expensive problems stop happening with my car! (that may be a while)

I'm 6'1", and I will also appreciate the extra room that a smaller diameter steering wheel will provide. My main motivation for swapping the wheel is that I hate 4 post wheels. Three spokes are for sports cars - not four. I guess Porsche didn't know how to cram an airbag into a 3 spoke wheel back in 1993.



I sourced a CS wheel (brand new) for under $400. While I like keeping the car period correct, I'm not so sure giving up an airbag is the best solution to the steering wheel issue.

I went to the 320mm wheel with hesitation as well; there were so many arguments against a 20 year old air bag. Will it even go off and if it does there will be a horrendous bang as it's a first gen air bag. My son and I are 6'4 & 6'6 so we are now swimming in space

I'm 6'2". I had a Miata before my 968. I currently have a 1958 Triumph TR3A. The steering wheel seems about 3 feet wide! The size of the steering wheel in the 968 has never been a problem for me! I guess everything is relative. lol

while i like the smaller diameter, the size never really bothered my all that much, though i was not a fan of the fugly 4 spoke thing.



what did bug me was the grip diameter. lol - maybe i'm just used to having something a bit bigger in my hand.



those stupid horn buttons drove me nuts too. i kept smacking the airbag to honk the horn.

The horn buttons are the feature I most like if the stock steering wheel. At lower speeds around town I drive with my thumb resting on the horn button ready to give non-attentive drivers a warning blast! It probably is a habit I picked up while living in Brazil, where a working horn is probably the most important part on any vehicle! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

It has come in handy with the 968 so that I do not need to slam on the brakes to avoid "dim wits" pulling out into traffic...

I've seen the Ruf wheels. Looks identical to the CS wheel except for Ruf being written on the horn button instead of the Porsche crest.

Not sure which I'd prefer if I were going to go with that style wheel.

The CS wheel is available from Sunset for about ~$480 with everything needed to bolt it up. you can find them occasionally used on ebay and they tend to end at ~$400.

That's a different RUF wheel. There are others that look just like the CS wheel.

Absolutely love the look of that wheel. I'm not at all a fan of the CS style wheel; IMO it's too spartan for a car that is otherwise elegant in every respect...UNLESS it's a true CS model, or, a stripped-down race car, or, you have sport seats ( or custom sports seats like Flash's car ) to match tne whole " sports car " aesthetic. That said though, I wish they would have made the 4 spoke one in the same smaller diameter of the CS wheel.

Dan I totally agree! While the CS wheel FEELS absolutely fantastic, sans airbag it's a little plain-jane vintage-Porsche-looking in the 968 interior. And I also don't have a problem with the stock wheel other than wishing it were a little smaller in diameter for a little extra knee/thigh clearance - I'm 6'4".

Bomb - Agreed, I would have kept my OEM wheel is it were a 350mm one. At 6'4" as well it just needs a little more for the knees. I think I'm going to buy a new wheel made by Raid. Really nice quality, and it has an airbag. Just not sure if I should order it or just wait and see if there are any vendors selling them at the Hershey meet. This will be my first mod. I can't stand my thin, 4 spoke wheel in magenta. The original wheel be preserved in storage for the next owner someday.
