Is it the protective strip halfway down the door? I never knew it was an option, I always thought they stopped putting them on the cars after '93 and before that it was default.

I lean something new on this site every day!

That's them, and more cabs were equipped with the body side moldings in 1994 then any other year (18 in 92, 62 in 93, 119 in 94, 41 in 95). Just about 12% of the cabs had the moldings (236/2008). Most people hate them.

Intetresting how people view things - I think our cars' overall body lines are so much more accentuated and really brought to life by the mouldings' placement on the doors, that it should be legally prohibited to drive a 968 without those strips. To my eyes, the car's side looks just a little bit flat..more of a two dimentional appearance without them.

Then again, " beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... "

I hear you, and don't forget the major reason they are there, to protect your car from a much worse looking door ding.

How true, I look at our other three cars and not one is spared from the dreaded door dings. You can park diagonally, in the most distant corner of a compeltely empty lot and I can guarantee you the only other car that drives in will manage to park right next to your 968 and then fling his/her door open as wide as possible while paying attention only to the text they're sending at the time..

Jim, you're actually #3. Check your vehicle information sticker (found on page two of maintenance manual or under the carpet), you should see C02, XD4, 331, 437, 454, 09991. If my information is correct. That would make your changer dealer installed. You would have to have code 692 to be factory.

That's crazy! Wow, installing a CD changer is one thing. I remember visiting my local dealer back in 94 and seeing the line item of 17"s wheels crossed off the window sticker as they had robbed them to sell another 968 but to change an interior!!! That would be a lot of work.

lol - yeah - ron's car had the "wheel swap" thing too - i completely agree about the amount of work on the interior swap - it's amazing what some folks will do though to have exactly what they want - can't say i fault them for that though

it has been interesting to see what things have been done by the dealer that didn't show up on the window stickers - i imagine a lot of cars were custom ordered, and the dealer then made a bundle by doing installs themselves, rather than waiting for the car to be built and then shipped

I'll check, but I'll agree it was dealer installed. Still nuts because they ran the cable under the trans tunnel carpet! I'll have to remove the seat to get the cable out. Not a big deal because I need to replace some broken bits from one of the seat motors anyway...

So #3 it is!

Interior color change wouldn't be too bad is they weren't doing the carpets...
