Hi,



I am planning to change my plug wires since the original wires are still on the car (130.000 KM`s) Any thoughts on which wires I should use? OEM, Nology, RS barn or Paragon? I also would like know what kind of(better) plugs I could use instead of the original Bosche items.

i am running the big blue ones from paragon with no issues



i run ngk iridium plugs - there was a small but noticeable bit of improvment over the bosch

My original plug wires are still performing flawlessly after 15l,000 miles. If they aren't breaking down/cross sparking I wouldn't change them yet. the original Bosch copper plugs also perform flawlessly, I too have the NGK Irridium plugs and noticed a bit better gas mileage but the cost hardly justifies the improvement in performance. Next time I will change back to the bosch copper electrode plugs. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

copper is fine for a daily driver - however, at sustained 7000 rpm, there is a difference - i found the copper tended to fall flat up top in a fairly short time, but the iridium kept going for a lot longer

Thank you for the quick reply, my wires are not cross sparking or breaking down ( as far as i can tell). While reading the different forums I found out that (or at least i think) it is a good thing to change the wires since the are almost 15 years old....but if it aint broke......I might as well keep the original wires on the car.

How much will a NGK Irridium plug cost over the OEM item?

iridium plugs will cost you two to three times the copper



as for the wires, that's really a tough one - you can test them for resistance to see how they are - i know the spec is out there somewhere



on my toys, i change them every 4th plug change (usually 2000 miles each) or 2 years, regardless of mileage, but i change my parts out much more frequently than most people, because i want all of the performance, and i can feel the difference in my plugs - my car sits a lot, and when i run it i run it hard, so the plugs don't last

Interestingly, just last month I called Pete at RS Barn to get a set of Magnecor wires from him. He told me that after having problems with them he had gone back to the OEM Beru wires. I ordered a set from and installed. Did not notice any performance difference... but AM radio sounds a lot better.

I'm in the same camp as RPM. I haven’t changed over the 68's wires yet but with previous cars, I've changed 3 year old wires to a fresh set added fresh plugs and cap/rotor as well and the cars have felt the same. Do I question my senses or is the reality simply that the difference taking place is minimal.

When the old parts are still good enough then replacing with new or more exotic material parts will be a negligible difference. If the old parts are failing and in need of replacement (indicated by missing, poor starting, hesitation, visible spark jumping in a dark garage with the hood open) then the difference will be very noticable. good luck, Bob blackwell.
