Some things never change
#1

Just a rant. Posted a thread on R.L. along the lines of "free OEM 968 chip pulled from my 1995 968 6-speed coupe. Collecting dust in my garage. If no one wants it, it will end up in the trash, if you are interested just pm me, pay shipping and its yours."

Thread was deleted, I get a pm from not 1...but two Mods claiming I should reread the forum rules and that I'm not allowed to post for sale threads because I am not a payed member. In other words...they expect me to pay $20 in order to give away a chip for free to another poster. Un-f'in-real. They rob their own members of free items because they aren't making a penny off it.

I donated $100 to this forum because of the community and support here, and because it never asked me for a penny to post anything. Despite the fact that I do not currently own a 968, I plan to donate more in the near future to help keep this wonderful sight running. With that said, I'd rather flush $20 down the toilet then give R.L. a single dollar.

Rant over.

can't we all just get along? oh yeah, i guess not. that's why there are 2 forums, becoming more and more divided. the people who get fed up at both end up on .net <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Sorry to hear it. I don't agree that offering a chip for free should trigger a post delete. Free is different than for sale, right?

classifieds here are free to our members. the site is free. always was. always will be. we're still the biggest too.

I def know who. Some people will forever remain about as mature as my nephews were 10 years ago. And I understand if I actually tried to sell an item...rules are rules.....regardless whether I agree with them or not.....but to delete an "item for free" thread because it is against forum rules to sell items unless you are a paid member is ridiculous.

That idiot (the one who tattled) does nothing to help fellow owners and members. In fact what he did was potentially rob someone of a free item. Great way to help others. Fool.

With decidedly two different vibes, one would hope that 968 owners would figure out which one better represents their interests. Voting with ones feet has always been the most responsible response!

Fox,

Thank you for contributing to the community. Sad that you are not appreciated everywhere, their loss.

You're always welcome here, 968 or not.

Thank you Jay. This place is great....even though I do not own one (I will one day again...most likely a Cab this time around), I love this community and this forum...and of course...968's. First car I really ever lusted for as a kid. Flash, i'm guessing someone shared this rant with a mod over on R.L.. A Super Mod pm'd me an apology and re listed the chip this morning. Shame that this is what needs to be done in order to list a FREE item on the dark side...Now if only Jeff could help me track down the first 968 I laid eyes on...the one that first captured my love.....from the 1992 NYIAS.

yeah - horse already out of the barn on that though. hopefully somebody will get a spanking, and stop behaving like a child. but, that's why most people avoid that place. too much of that kind of thing there. at least here, when people want to avoid me when i'm on a rant, they can just hit the "ignore" button or move on. there is plenty of other content, and a whole bunch of members. over there, there isn't much else going on, and only a handful of people.

re: tracking down - same here - for me, it's the copper colored 92 i almost bought. it's a whole car that is apparently not in the database. i'm kicking myself now for not buying it, but i just couldn't quite get my head around the color. now, knowing what i know, i should have snagged it.

That car is most likely one of the Special Wishes Color to Sample cars that Jeff does not know the exact color too...as there is no way of knowing what Color those cars are without physically seeing the car and checking the color code. I forgot the code that's listed...but its basically just "color to sample" with no mention of exact color. I have seen a few Copper 968's (photo's, not in person)...All ROW cars....if this is the color you are referring to. If so, that would be a true 1 of 1 N.A. Spec car (both Coupe & Cab) like the '95 Coupe in Summer Yellow.

that looks like the color. the one i was looking at was a well optioned cab, original color, and definitely a US car. he doesn't know show the car in his database, but there are a whole bunch of things that are out there that are not in that database.

You definitely wouldn't have any trouble finding where you parked that car in a parking lot! I usually don't go for the offbeat colors, but I must say, I kind of like it.

lol - yeah - me either. the uniqueness though brings about a different feeling. i'd probably never drive it though, as i get enough finger pointing for being weird now.

I've never had any significant trouble with the guys at R.L - overall, they seem like a decent group of guys. But that site has SO little activity. As an example, my little post asking if anyone has any of the fuel rail-to-intake manifold isolation pieces generate 16 replies here, including some creative suggestions for substitutes. I posted the same question on R.L., and the sound of the crickets was deafening - a grand total of zero replies.

lol - i don't think any trouble with anybody over there could be thought of as "significant". that would require the party themself being "significant".

i've found that the only members over there who have ever been helpful, are also members here, and that the ones who are not members here, are usually the problem children.

coincidence?

I wouldn't say I've had quite the same experience. I've had some good interactions with people there who I've never seen post over here. In general, I've observed complete intra-site harmony, but like some sort of twisted venn diagram, ugly things happen when the two universes overlap.

i've only seen a handful of guys over there who are not members here, and i've been watching for years. there are 3 or 4 who never became members, and another 6 or 7 who have left. that's about it. the rest are in both places.

perhaps you just don't see the member logs like i do. there are a whole bunch of guys who lurk.

be that as it may, the prevailing attitude from the moderators is the biggest problem. between the "membership nazi" and the "anti 968forums patrol", it gets tiresome.

on the flipside, we have always welcomed everybody. as long as everybody plays nice, they are welcome. perhaps some just cannot find it within themselves to be adults and play nice. that's ok. they can stay over there.
